Sammanfattning : The main purpose of this dissertation is to answer the question of how one can understand the fact that we mean very different things when we say that God exists and when we say that chairs, mountains and trees exist, and that it is still a matter of existence. On the one hand it seems that we talk about the same thing when we say that something exists, irrespective of what it is, on the other hand it seems to be a question of very different things depending on what it is we are talking about as existing. 3. Gods, Grammars, and Genres : Towards an Ethics of English Studies in Imperial Sovereignty
Sammanfattning : In this dissertation, the author argues that the post-process movement towards genre-based writing pedagogies is reproducing the logic of neoliberal or free-market ideology. By analyzing the relationship between three paradigms of sovereignty (feudalism, the nation-state, and globalization) and institutionalized language, the author demonstrates that teaching writing as multiple and genred as opposed to teaching it as a single, abstract skill is no a more rational approach, but rather a differently rational approach. 4. The extended voice : Instances of myth in the Indo-European corpus
Sammanfattning : Proceeding from the presence of recurrent, poetic phrases and verbal collocations in early texts composed in Indo-European languages, this study is an attempt to elucidate some fundamental problems of myth, tradition and culture. The scholarly study of Indo-European religions and mythology-initiated during the 19th century and proceeding up to modem times with varying success-has often been devoted to the task of restoring a homogeneous system of Indo-European religious beliefs by searching for deep-seated reflexes of such a system in the historically attainable cultures. 5. God and the world : Pragmatic and epistemic arguments for panentheistic and pantheistic conceptions of the God–world relationship
Sammanfattning : This study critically reconstructs, analyzes, and assesses reasons for embracing panentheism or pantheism instead of classical theism. It argues that, when analyzing the adequacy of a conception of God, pragmatic reasons related to harms or benefits are equally important as epistemic reasons that relate to truth and correspondence.
