21. Maternal stress and allergic disease in offspring
Sammanfattning : The theory of developmental origins of health and disease (DOHaD), hypothesize that diseases like allergy is formed in-utero and early life by interaction between adverse environmental factors and genetic predisposition. The study population in this thesis consists of mother-child pairs from the PreventADALL cohort. LÄS MER
22. PLASMA PROTEINS IN NORMAL AND PREECLAMPTIC PREGNANCY
Sammanfattning : The aim of the research presented in this thesis was to provide extended background knowledge concerning several biochemical markers, used for the medical evaluation of pregnant women with suspected or confirmed preeclampsia, in order to improve the reliability of monitoring. Plasma levels of beta-2 microglobulin, cystatin C and beta trace protein are known to reflect renal filtration in non-pregnant settings, and the plasma proteins, C-reactive protein and serum amyloid A protein, are known to be sensitive markers of inflammation. 23. Cardiovascular beta-adrenergic signaling : Maturation and programming effects of hypoxia in a chicken model
Sammanfattning : Despite the importance of β-adrenergic receptors (βARs) in cardiovascular disease, not much is known about how prenatal hypoxia effects βAR signaling in the postnatal animal. Thus, the aim of this thesis was to characterize the pre- and postnatal maturation of the cardiovascular βARs and the effects of chronic prenatal hypoxia on βAR signaling in the embryo and adult animal using the chicken as experimental model. 24. Apolipoprotein CIII and Ljungan virus in diabetes
Sammanfattning : It has been shown that there are patients with type 1 diabetes (T1D), whose sera induce an increased activity of voltage-gated Ca2+-channels in pancreatic beta-cells, resulting in increased cytoplasmic free Ca2+ concentration ([Ca2+]i) and apoptosis. Purification of the protein in the active fraction of T1D sera revealed that the observed effects were mediated by apolipoprotein CIII (apoCIII), and this protein was shown to be increased in serum from T1D patients. 25. Maternal immune characteristics and innate immune responses in the child in relation to allergic disease
Sammanfattning : The mechanistic factors responsible for the increase in allergic diseases are still not fully understood, but a reduced microbial stimulation seems to be one of the key issues. Research is now aiming at investigating the relationship between the innate immune system, involving the toll-like receptors, and allergy development. LÄS MER
