11. Severe Head Injury. Evaluation of Acute Treatment and Rehabilitation
Sammanfattning : Mortality after severe head injury can be considerably reduce with a therapy using physiological principles for brain volume regulation and preserved microcirculation, with the main purpose of restricting the rise in ICP to reasonable levels simultaneously with preservation of adequate blood supply. This study shows that the ?Lund Concept? can reduce mortality in patients with severe traumatic brain lesions from 47% to 8%. LÄS MER
12. Physical Modeling of Brain and Head Kinematics
Sammanfattning : The development of head injury criteria and countermeasures for head protection requires understanding of how different factors affect brain and head kinematics. In this thesis, 2D physical models of the human head were developed and used to evaluate how various factors affect brain kinematics during angular head kinematics. LÄS MER
13. Audiologic and cognitive long-term sequelae from closed head injury
Sammanfattning : Objectives – Head injury is an important health problem all over the world. Previous studies have shown that peripheral hearing impairment (HI) is a common sequel of closed head injury (CHI), but in most cases it will subside within the first posttraumatic months. LÄS MER
14. Injuries among the elderly : study of fatal and non-fatal injury events
Sammanfattning : In view of the expected increase in the proportion of elderly in the population in most western countries, we studied injuries among the elderly (>60 years) by investigating hospital-treated injuries in inpatients and outpatients, and fatal injuries.One-year Hospital Injury Data - Even though the elderly made up only 15% of the injured in one year, they accounted for 42% of the total cost of trauma medical care, showing that injuries among the elderly place a disproportional burden on the health care system. 15. Prevention of Head Injuries - focusing Specifically on Oblique Impacts
Sammanfattning : The massive number of injuries sustained in trafficaccidents is a growing problem worldwide, especially indeveloping countries. In 1998, more than one million peoplewere killed in traffic accidents worldwide, while about tentimes as many people were injured. LÄS MER
