  1. 6. Finite Element Modeling of the Human Head

    Författare :Svein Kleiven; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :Finite element method FEM ; Human head; brain; head injury; epidemiology; statistics; simulations.;

    Sammanfattning : The main objectives of the present thesis were to define the dimension of head injuries in Sweden over a longer period and to present a Finite Element (FE) model of the human head which can be used for preventive strategies in the future. The annual incidence of head injuries in Sweden between 1987 and 2000 was defined at over 22 000, cases most of which were mild head injuries. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Modelling of Diffuse Brain Injury: Combining Methods to Study Possible Links between Transient Intracranial Pressure and Injury

    Författare :Ulrika Krave; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; animal model; astrocytosis; diffuse axonal injury; neurofilaments; diffuse brain injury; rotational acceleration; closed head trauma; rabbit; finite element analysis; intracranial pressure; injury mechanisms;

    Sammanfattning : The objectives of this research are the study of sagittal rotational acceleration induced diffuse brain injury mechanisms. Such injuries are common in vehicle accidents in particular; the consequences range from mild to severe symptoms and may lead to persistent neurological dysfunction. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Investigation of Head Injuries in Car-to-Child Pedestrian Accidents

    Författare :Jianfeng Yao; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; injury mechanisms; head injury; child pedestrian; accident;

    Sammanfattning : Head injury is the most common injury type in child pedestrian accidents andcould lead to lifelong disability or even death. To protect child pedestrianfrom head injury, it is important to understand the head injury mechanismsand tolerance levels. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Neck Injury Risk in Rear-End Impacts. Risk Factors and Neck Injury Criterion Evaluation with Madymo Modelling and Real-Life Data

    Författare :Linda Eriksson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; injury criteria; rear-end impacts; neck injuries; mathematical modelling; injury probability; head restraints; BioRID; NICmax; risk factors; WAD; car seats;

    Sammanfattning : Soft-tissue neck injuries, also termed AIS 1 neck injuries, are common after low-speed rear-end impacts. These injuries, which can be long-lasting, have increased in frequency during the past few decades. There is no consensus regarding injury mechanisms; however, injury criteria have been proposed, without yet being fully evaluated. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Mild Traumatic Brain Injury : Studies on outcome and prognostic factors

    Författare :Marianne Lannsjö; Jörgen Borg; Per Enblad; Ulla Johansson; Richard Levi; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Rehabilitation; Mild Traumatic Brain Injury; Rivermead Post-concussion Symptoms Questionnaire; Rasch-analysis; prediction; outcome; head CT pathology; Magnet Resonance Imaging; Rehabilitation Medicine; Rehabiliteringsmedicin;

    Sammanfattning : Objectives: To explore the prevalence and structure of self-reported disability after mild traumatic brain injury and the impact of traumatic brain pathology on such outcome.Material and methods: In study 1-3, symptoms data were collected by use of Rivermead Post-concussion Symptoms Questionnaire (RPQ) and data on global function by use of Glasgow Outcome Scale Extended (GOSE) from 2602 patients at 3 months after MTBI.
