  1. 1. Signalling pathways in renal cell carcinoma with a focus on telomerase regulation

    Författare :Raviprakash Tumkur Sitaram; Göran Roos; Anders Bjartell; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Renal cell carcinoma; DJ-1; NBS1; PTEN; WT1; cMyc; hTERT; telomerase; Pathology; Patologi; patologi; Pathology;

    Sammanfattning : Telomerase is a ribonucleoprotein complex that catalyses telomeric repeat addition at the ends of chromosomes. The catalytic subunit, hTERT, acts as a key determinant for telomerase activity control; the induction of hTERT expression is required for telomerase activity. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Development of adenoviral vectors for monitoring telomerase activity in living cells

    Författare :Anna Edqvist; Neurokirurgi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; cytogenetics; Genetics; cancer; onkologi; Cytologi; cancerology; oncology; Cytology; GBM; HSC; adenovirus; hTERT; Genetik; cytogenetik;

    Sammanfattning : ABSTRACT Telomerase activity is a potential molecular marker for cancer and primitive cells in regenerative tissues. The most commonly used method to measure telomerase activity in cells is the telomerase reverse amplification protocol (TRAP) assay, where the protein extracts derived from homogenized cells are analysed. 3. 3. Activity and Regulation of Telomerase in Malignant Cells

    Författare :Anna Lindkvist; Ylva Paulsson-Karlsson; Göran Roos; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medicine; apoptosis; ATC; c-Myc; drug sensitivity; ESCC; hTERT; hypoxia; IFN; MM; neuroblastoma; p53; telomerase; TGF-β; Medicin; Dermatology and venerology; clinical genetics; internal medicine; Dermatologi och venerologi; klinisk genetik; invärtesmedicin;

    Sammanfattning : An important step in tumorgenesis is the acquisition of cellular immortality. Tumor cells accomplish this by activating the enzyme telomerase, and thereby avoiding replicative senescence. The aim of this thesis was to study the activity and regulation of telomerase in a panel of malignant cell types. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Development of Adenoviral Vectors for Studying Hematopoietic Stem Cell Function

    Författare :Marcus Järås; Institutionen för laboratoriemedicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Hematologi; extracellulära vätskor; extracellular fluids; hTERT; adenovirus; hematopoietic stem cells; Haematology;

    Sammanfattning : Hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) are defined by their capacity to self-renew and differentiate into all hematopoietic cell lineages. Postnatally, HSCs reside predominantly in the bone marrow and are relatively rare, but important cells because of their therapeutic potential in bone marrow transplantation protocols and in their involvement in the origin of certain leukemias. 5. 5. The immortalization process of T cells : with focus on the regulation of telomere length and telomerase activity

    Författare :Sofie Degerman; Göran Roos; John Sedivy; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :immortalization; senescence; T cells; Nijmegen breakage syndrome; telomere; telomerase; hTERT; generic aberrations; methylation; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Pathology; patologi;

    Sammanfattning : Cellular immortalization is a major hallmark of cancer and is a multi-step process that requires numerous cell-type specific changes, including inactivation of control mechanisms and stabilization of telomere length. The telomeres at the chromosome ends are essential for genomic stability, and limit the growth potential of most cells. LÄS MER
