  1. 11. Temporal variation and phytotoxicity of Batatasin-III produced by Empetrum hermaphroditum

    Författare :Anna Wallstedt; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Palaeobotany; nitrogen uptake; photosynthesis; inhibition; temporal variation; chemical interference; boreal forest; Empetrum hermaphroditum; batatasin-III; phylogeny; palynology; Paleobotanik; fylogeni; palynologi; Biology; Biologi;

    Sammanfattning : In northern Sweden, the clonal dwarf shrub Empetrum hermaphroditum Hagerup exerts strong inhibitory effects on other plant species. These inhibitory effects may, at least in part, be attributed to the high production of the secondary metabolite, batatasin-III, which is released from leaves and transported to the soil by rain (throughfall) and snowmelt. 2. 12. Probiotic Lactobacilli in the context of dental caries as a biofilm-mediated disease

    Författare :Pamela Hasslöf; Christina Stecksén Blicks; Svante Twetman; Peter Lingström; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; caries prevention; co-aggregation; dental caries; growth inhibition; mutans streptococci; probiotic lactobacilli; re-colonization; odontologi; Odontology;

    Sammanfattning : Background: The World Health Organization defines probiotics as ‘live microorganisms which, when administered in adequate amounts, confer a health benefit to the host’. Traditionally, probiotic microorganisms have been used to prevent or treat gastrointestinal tract diseases. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Fermentative hydrogen and methane productions using membrane bioreactors

    Författare :Julius Akinbomi; Högskolan i Borås; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Encapsulation; Inhibition; hydrodynamics; hydrogen; methane; fruit flavour; Membrane bioreactor; Resursåtervinning; Resource Recovery;

    Sammanfattning : The role of energy as a stimulant for economic growth and environmental sustainabilityof any nation has made the focus on green fuels, including fermentative hydrogen (bioH2) andmethane (bioCH4), to be a priority for the World’s policy makers. Nigeria, as the most populousAfrican country, with worsening energy crisis, can benefit from the introduction of the bioH2 andbioCH4 technologies into the country’s energy mix, since such technologies have the potential ofgenerating energy from organic wastes such as fruit waste. 4. 14. Ethanol from Lignocellulose: Physiological Effects of Inhibitors and Fermentation Strategies

    Författare :Mohammad Taherzadeh Esfahani; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; fermentation; dilute-acid hydrolyzate; ethanol; hydroxymethyl furfural; furfural; acetic acid; lignocellulose; fed-batch; yeast; pantothenate; control; inhibition; HMF;

    Sammanfattning : Fermentative ethanol production from dilute-acid hydrolyzates of wood using the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae was investigated. Of known inhibitors in hydrolyzates, acetic acid, furfural and hydroxymethyl furfural (HMF) were found in the highest concentrations (up to about 10 g/l). LÄS MER

  5. 15. Immunological characteristics of recombinant fragments of the Plasmodium falciparum blood-stage antigen Pf332

    Författare :Halima A. Balogun; Klavs Berzins; Lars Hviid; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Plasmodium falciparum; Pf332; antibodies; immunity; growth inhibition; Immunology; Immunologi; immunologi; Immunology;

    Sammanfattning : Effective malaria vaccine might help improve control strategies against malaria, but the complexity of interactions between the parasite and its hosts poses challenges. The asexual blood stage P. falciparum antigen Pf332 has potentials as one of the proteins in understanding the complex host-parasite interactions. LÄS MER
