  1. 36. Essays on Exchange Rates, Exports and Growth in Developing Countries

    Författare :Kristian Nilsson; Nationalekonomiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; International commerce; developing countries; growth; exports; exchange rate misalignments; Exchange rate regimes; exchange rate volatility; Internationell ekonomi;

    Sammanfattning : This dissertation is a collection of four essays, where the unifying theme is how different exchange rate regimes have affected developing countries’ economic performance in different respects. In particular, we analyse the consequences on developing countries’ exports, but also, to some extent, the effects on their economic growth. LÄS MER

  2. 37. Biological growth on rendered façades

    Författare :Sanne Johansson; Avdelningen för Byggnadsmaterial; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; temperature; render; radiation; photosynthesis; moulds; mosses; mortar; moisture; lichens; Imaging-PAM; humidity; heat capacity; heat; ETICS; algae; biological growth; calorimetry; desiccation tolerance;

    Sammanfattning : Biological organisms have an incredible ability to adapt to almost any environment and the humans activities on earth have created many new habitats for different kinds of organisms. For example can certain organisms grow on rocks and vertical cliffs, and when humans started building houses with mineral based façades, some organisms found that these were new habitats to live on. 3. 38. Growth hormone in the brain : Focus on cognitive function

    Författare :Erika Brolin; Fred Nyberg; Mathias Hallberg; Alfhild Grönbladh; Jörgen Isgaard; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Growth hormone; central nervous system; cognition; morphine; gamma-hydroxybutyrate; diabetes; Barnes maze; Morris water maze; mice; rats; Pharmaceutical Science; Farmaceutisk vetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Cognitive impairments are an increasing health problem worldwide. In the developed countries, the average life expectancy has dramatically increased over the last decades, and with an elderly population more cases of cognitive impairments appear. LÄS MER

  4. 39. The Role of Fibroblast Growth Factor 23 in Phosphate Homeostasis

    Författare :Tobias Erik Martin Larsson; Kenneth Jonsson; Östen Ljunggren; Suzanne Jan De Beur; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medicine; Fibroblast Growth Factor 23; FGF-23; phosphate homeostasis; vitamin D metabolism; sodium phosphate cotransporters; autosomal dominant hypophosphatemic rickets; ADHR; X-linked hypophosphatemic rickets; XLH; oncogenic osteomalacia; OOM; PHEX; Medicin; Dermatology and venerology; clinical genetics; internal medicine; Dermatologi och venerologi; klinisk genetik; invärtesmedicin;

    Sammanfattning : The regulation of serum phosphate (Pi) concentrations is a complex process and our current models are far from complete. Due to major advancements in biotechnology and the development of more powerful research tools, recent advances in the field of genetics has led to the identification of several candidates for the long sought-after phosphatonin(s), or Pi regulating hormones. 5. 40. Deciphering the Alk signaling pathway in Drosophila

    Författare :Fredrik Hugosson; Ruth H. Palmer; Osamu Shimmi; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Drosophila; Alk; RTK; visceral mesoderm; signal transduction; growth factor; transcription factor; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Sammanfattning : In Drosophila melanogaster the visceral mesoderm (VM) develops during embryogenesis in a process where myoblasts become specified to generate two distinct cell types, the founder cells (FCs) and the fusion competent myoblasts (FCMs) that consequently fuses. The cell specification is dependent on cell signaling mediated by the receptor tyrosine kinase (RTK) Anaplastic lymphoma kinase (Alk) and its ligand Jelly belly (Jeb), how this further sets up different identity programs that drive myoblasts to differentiate into FCs and FCMs is still not well understood.
