  1. 36. Genetic variation, polyploidy and hybridization in Scandinavian Anthericum ramosum and A. liliago (Anthericaceae)

    Författare :Gabrielle Rosquist; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Systematic botany; inbreeding depression; gene flow; introgression; hybridization; morphology; isozyme; allozyme; allele frequencies; population fragmentation; genetic diversity; geographic variation; Anthericum; Allopolyploidy; taxonomy; phytogeography; chemotaxonomy. Physiology of nonvascular plants; Systematisk botanik; taxonomi; morfologi; kemotaxonomi. Växters fysiologi inte kärlväxter .;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis, I investigate the differences in breeding system, levels of genetic variation and hierarchical structure of genetic diversity between Anthericum ramosum and A. liliago. The two species differ in ploidy level and flowering time, but have similar habitat preferences, reproductive biology and geographic distributions in Scandinavia. LÄS MER

  2. 37. Genetic diversity of the heat labile (LT) and heat stable (ST) toxins of human enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli (ETEC): New insights into polymorphism, regulation, and gene transcription

    Författare :Enrique Joffre; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; ETEC; diversity; bacterial enterotoxins; polymorphism; gene regulation; gene transcription; Diarrhoeal disease; bacterial infection;

    Sammanfattning : Infection with enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli (ETEC) is a leading cause of diarrhea in children in developing countries and travelers to endemic regions. ETEC is a diverse pathogen, with a wide range of virulence factors including enterotoxins and more than 25 identified colonization factors (CFs). LÄS MER

  3. 38. Genetic studies of two inherited human phenotypes : Hearing loss and monoamine oxidase activity

    Författare :Jorune Balciuniene; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Genetics; linkage analysis; hearing loss; digenic inheritance; allelic association; monoamine oxidase; human genetic diversity; Genetik; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik; Medical Genetics; medicinsk genetik;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on the identification of genetic factors underlying two inherited human phenotypes: hearing loss and monoamine oxidase activity. Non-syndromic hearing loss segregating in a Swedish family was tested for linkage to 13 previously reported candidate loci for hearing disabilities. LÄS MER

  4. 39. Ecological drivers and genetic signatures of evolutionary divergence and local adaptation in pike (Esox lucius)

    Författare :Johanna Sunde; Anders Forsman; Anssi Laurila; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; adaptation; differentiation; Esox lucius; evolution; gene flow; genetic admixture; genetic structure; microsatellites; pike; RADseq; salinity tolerance; temperature tolerance; Ecology; Ekologi;

    Sammanfattning : The diversity among species, populations, and individuals in nature is astonishing. Genetic and phenotypic variation constitutes the raw material for evolution. It influences how populations respond to changing environments, and can impact long-term survival of species and ecosystem functioning. LÄS MER

  5. 40. Monitoring gene level biodiversity - aspects and considerations in the context of conservation

    Författare :Johan Charlier; Linda Laikre; Nils Ryman; Kjetil Hindar; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; brown trout; conservation genetics; genetic drift; genetic monitoring; effective population size; moose; one-sample approach; spatial genetic structure; statistical power; temporal data; populationsgenetik; Population Genetics;

    Sammanfattning : The objectives of this thesis relate to questions needed to be addressed in the context of genetic monitoring for implementing the Convention on Biological Diversity for the gene level. Genetic monitoring is quantifying temporal changes in population genetic metrics. LÄS MER
