21. Gene regulation by chromatin remodelling complexes : SWI/SNF complex in mRNA processing and B-WICH complex in ribosomal gene expression
Sammanfattning : The aim of this project is to investigate the roles of chromatin remodelling complexes in gene regulation. It is focused on two groups of chromatin complexes: the mammalian BRG1 and BRM SWI/SNF complexes and the ISWI-containing B-WICH complex.Study 1 investigates the role of SWI/SNF complexes in alternative splicing. 22. Adipose tissue gene expression & candidate genes for obesity
Sammanfattning : Obesity results from an interaction between genetic and environmental factors and is a growing health problem associated with development of insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease. This thesis has focused on investigating the genetic contribution in obesity and insulin resistance by both candidate and global gene approaches with focus on the adipose tissue. LÄS MER
23. Gene regulation by different proteins of TGFβ superfamily
Sammanfattning : The present thesis discusses how gene regulation by transforming growth factor β (TGFβ) family cytokines is affected by post-translational modifications of different transcription factors. The thesis also focuses on gene regulation by transcription factors involved in TGFβ signaling. LÄS MER
24. RNA-based mechanisms of chromatin and gene regulation
Sammanfattning : Cells regulate gene expression in a particular spatio-temporal manner by executing specific transcriptional programs. The different transcriptional programs allow the generation of the different cell types in multicellular organisms and mediate particular cellular responses to external cues such as viral infections. 25. RhoGTPase Signaling in Cell Polarity and Gene Regulation
Sammanfattning : RhoGTPases are proteins working as molecular switches as they bind and hydrolyze GTP. They are in their active conformation when GTP is bound and are then able to interact with their effector proteins, which relay the downstream signaling. When the GTP is hydrolyzed to GDP, the RhoGTPase is inactivated. LÄS MER
