  1. 1. DNA adductomics: Method development and integration in biological effect monitoring

    Författare :Giulia Martella; Elena Gorokhova; Hitesh V. Motwani; Brita Sundelin; Gunnar Boysen; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; DNA adducts; Nucleic acids; High-resolution mass spectrometry; Data-independent acquisition; Biological effect monitoring; Environmental contaminants; Biomarkers; Amphipods as sentinel species; Environmental Sciences; miljövetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Environmental omics can provide informative biomarkers for identifying pathologies or physiological responses to environmental change. Nucleic acid adductomics, one of the newest omics techniques, is particularly well suited for assessing exposure and effects of environmental contaminants because the technique can capture modifications at the (epi)genome level. 2. 2. Biomarkers in perch (Perca fluviatilis) used in environmental monitoring of the Stockholm recipient and background areas in the Baltic Sea

    Författare :Tomas Hansson; Lennart Balk; Ulf Rannug; Tracy Collier; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; biomarker; DDT; environmental monitoring; EROD; fish; GSI; nanoinjection; PAH; PCB; Perca fluviatilis; perch; reproduction; Environmental toxicology; Miljötoxikologi; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis reports the results of biomarker measurements in three environmental monitoring projects. In the first project, which was part of the Swedish national environmental monitoring, biomarkers were measured annually in female perch (Perca fluviatilis) in two background areas in the Baltic Sea during 1988–2000, resulting in a unique 13-year series of measurements. 3. 3. Fish bile in environmental analysis

    Författare :Margaretha Adolfsson-Erici; Michael McLachlan; Lillemor Asplund; Freek Ariese; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; fish bile estrogenic triclosan rubber additives pulp and paper; Environmental chemistry; Miljökemi;

    Sammanfattning : This work explores the usefulness of fish bile analysis in combination with biomarkers for identifying and evaluating new environmental contaminants in the aquatic environment. It illustrates how bile analysis can be used together with biomarkers to assess the causes of estrogenic effects, to identify chemicals in the aquatic environment that are taken up by fish, and to monitor environmental exposure. 4. 4. Identification and origin of potential background carcinogens : endogenous isoprene and oxiranes, dietary acrylamide

    Författare :Eden Tareke; Rafter Joseph; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Environmental chemistry; Miljökemi; Environmental Chemistry; miljökemi;

    Sammanfattning : The primary aims of this thesis are to discover carcinogens in the general population by identification of products of reaction with hemoglobin (Hb adducts) in blood from humans without known exposure, and tracing the origin of the adducts. Chemicals and/or their metabolites forming Hb adducts mostly also react with DNA and may thus cause mutations, a key event in carcinogenesis. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Advances in DNA Detection

    Författare :Yajing Song; Olof Emanuelsson; Jonas Tegenfeldt; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; DNA detection; active filter paper; visual detection; throughput; fluorescence; superparamagnetic beads; rare DNA; Q-PCR; chemical fragmentation; DNA library preparation; massively parallel sequencing; SRA - Molecular Bioscience; SRA - Molekylär biovetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : DNA detection technologies have an increasing importance in our everyday lives, with applications ranging from microbial diagnostics to forensic analysis, food safety evaluation, and environmental monitoring. Currently, as the associated costs decrease, DNA diagnostic techniques are routinely used in research laboratories, in clinical and forensic practice. LÄS MER
