6. Development of highly biocompatible neuro-electronic interfaces towards monitoring authentic neuronal signaling in the brain
Sammanfattning : Background: To understand how the neuronal circuits in the brain process information there is a need for novelneuro-electronic interfaces that can interact chronically with brain tissue with minimal disturbance of thephysiological conditions in the tissue, in awake and freely moving animals. For this, there is a need for implantableneuro-electronic interfaces that are mechanically compliant with the tissue and that can remain positionally stablewith respect to the neurons, despite the continuous micromotions in the brain. 8. Chemogenetics, Induced Neurons and Pluripotent Stem Cells: Towards Advanced Gene and Cell Therapies Targeting Epilepsy
Sammanfattning : The complexity of the central nervous system and existence of the blood-brain barrier often causes difficulties for traditional pharmacological treatments of neurological diseases. This thesis explores the feasibility and potential for novel gene and cell therapy approaches, which hold better promise for neurological disorders, while particularly targeting epilepsy. LÄS MER
9. In vivo properties of neural stem cells after transplantation into the rat brain-Studies of phenotypic differentiation and functional integration using cell-specific labelling and electrophysiological techniques
Sammanfattning : In the present thesis, we have examined the in vivo properties of in vitro expanded human and rat neural stem-and progenitor cells after transplantation into the neonatal and adult rat brain. The survival and differentiation of the grafted cells were assessed using species-specific antisera, and pre-labelling with the reporter gene green fluorescent protein (GFP). LÄS MER
10. Electrophysiological effects of contrast media. Dynamic vectorcardiographic monitoring of patients during coronary angiography
Sammanfattning : Objective: The aims of this work were to study, by means of dynamic vectorcardiography (VCG), the electrophysiological effects of contrast media (CM) injected into the coronary arteries and to evaluate which VCG variables are most suitable for comparing different CM. We also studied if CM-induced VCG changes differ from those seen after myocardial ischaemia. LÄS MER
