    Sammanfattning : In the present thesis, we have examined the in vivo properties of in vitro expanded human and rat neural stem-and progenitor cells after transplantation into the neonatal and adult rat brain. The survival and differentiation of the grafted cells were assessed using species-specific antisera, and pre-labelling with the reporter gene green fluorescent protein (GFP). LÄS MER

  2. 2. Molecular determinants of endocannabinoid-mediated brain development

    Författare :Daniela Calvigioni; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The enchanting process of brain development entails a fragile and finite time window, throughout which biochemical imbalances and external insults can potentially affect developing neuronal circuits. Within the numerous exquisitely orchestrated events taking place in the foetal brain, axonal pathfinding is of paramount importance. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Effects of retinoic acid in the mouse olfactory sensory systems

    Författare :Maria Hörnberg; Staffan Bohm; Finn Hallböök; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; olfactory; retinoic acid; neuron survival; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : A common characteristic in neurodegenerative diseases of the brain is death of specific neuronal populations. The lack of neuron proliferation and axon extension in most parts of the central nervous system leads to chronic loss of neurons in the case of injury or disease. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Motion and Emotion : Functional In Vivo Analyses of the Mouse Basal Ganglia

    Sammanfattning : A major challenge in the field of neuroscience is to link behavior with specific neuronal circuitries and cellular events. One way of facing this challenge is to identify unique cellular markers and thus have the ability to, through various mouse genetics tools, mimic, manipulate and control various aspects of neuronal activity to decipher their correlation to behavior. 5. 5. Neuropeptides, sensory neurons and pain modulation

    Författare :Pablo R Brumovsky; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : In the present thesis work we have analyzed the expression, regulation and function of two neuropeptides: galanin and neuropeptide tyrosine (NPY). Their associated receptors, galanin receptor-1 and -2 (GaIR1, -R2) and NPY Y1- and Y2R, were also studied. LÄS MER
