  1. 11. Membrane Induced Structure in Transmembrane Signaling Proteins and Peptides : Peptide–Lipid Interactions Studied by Spectroscopic Methods

    Författare :Sofia E. Unnerståle; Lena Mäler; Jason Schnell; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; peptide-lipid interaction; paddle domain; voltage gating; voltage sensor domain; micelle; phospholipid bicelle; solution structure; HAMP domain; nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy; circular dichroism spectroscopy; nonspecific interaction; Biophysics; biofysik;

    Sammanfattning : Biological membranes, defining the boundary of cells and eukaryotic organelles, are mainly composed of lipids and membrane proteins. Interactions between these lipids and proteins are needed to preserve the tight seal of the membrane, but also to induce structure for proper function in many membrane proteins. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Domain engineering in KTiOPO4

    Författare :Carlota Canalias; Fredrik Laurell; Benoît Boulanger; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; quasi-phase matching; KTiOPO4; ferroelectric domains; atomic force microscopy; periodic electric field poling; polarization switching; second harmonic generation; Optical physics; Optisk fysik;

    Sammanfattning : Ferroelectric crystals are commonly used in nonlinear optics for frequency conversion of laser radiation. The quasi-phase matching (QPM) approach uses a periodically modulated nonlinearity that can be achieved by periodically inverting domains in ferroelectric crystals and allows versatile and efficient frequency conversion in the whole transparency region of the material. 3. 13. The relationship between orthology, protein domain architecture and protein function

    Författare :Kristoffer Forslund; Erik Sonnhammer; Cristina Al-Khalili Szigyarto; Sarah Teichmann; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; homology; orthology; paralogy; gene duplications; protein function prediction; low-complexity regions; protein domains; domain architecture evolution; introns; intron position conservation; orthology conjecture; domain grammar hypothesis; biokemi; inriktning teoretisk kemi; Biochemistry with Emphasis on Theoretical Chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : Lacking experimental data, protein function is often predicted from evolutionary and protein structure theory. Under the 'domain grammar' hypothesis the function of a protein follows from the domains it encodes. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Anomaly detection in the surveillance domain

    Författare :Christoffer Brax; Lars Niklasson; Göran Falkman; Dimiter Driankov; Henric Johnson; Örebro universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Anomaly Detection; Information Fusion; Visual Surveillance; Maritime Domain Awareness; Datalogi; Computer and Systems Science; Teknik;

    Sammanfattning : In the post September 11 era, the demand for security has increased in virtually all parts of the society. The need for increased security originates from the emergence of new threats which differ from the traditional ones in such a way that they cannot be easily defined and are sometimes unknown or hidden in the “noise” of daily life. 5. 15. Domain swapping as a molecular mechanism in amyloidosis

    Författare :Maria Wahlbom; Avdelningen för klinisk kemi och farmakologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Clinical chemistry; Klinisk kemi; Medicin människa och djur ; Medicine human and vertebrates ; oligomer; dimer; domain swapping; fibril; cystatin C; amyloidosis;

    Sammanfattning : Amyloidosis is a group of diseases characterized by a change in protein conformation resulting in aggregation and tissue deposition of amyloid fibrils. One variant of cystatin C, L68Q cystatin C, is highly amyloidogenic and persons carrying the corresponding gene suffer from massive cerebral amyloidosis leading to brain hemorrhage and death. LÄS MER
