16. Synthetic and Mechanistic Studies with Iodine(III) Reagents
Sammanfattning : This thesis describes the development of metal-free transformations and mechanistic studies on the reactivity of two classes of hypervalent iodine reagents: diaryliodonium salts and vinylbenziodoxolones (VBX). Recently, they have been recognized as valuable synthetic reagents with broad applicability in organic synthesis. LÄS MER
17. Models of NADH with C2 and D2 Symmetry
Sammanfattning : A novel supramolecular approach to the design of NADH models is presented in this dissertation. The models can be divided into two types, C2 symmetric and D2 symmetric macrocyclic structures. The C2 symmetric models are made from a chiral C2 symmetric unit, two dihydronicotinamide units and a phenylene spacer, to form a macrocyclic structure. LÄS MER
18. MYC and MexR interactions with DNA : a Small Angle Scattering perspective
Sammanfattning : Protein-DNA complexes govern transcription, that is, the cellular mechanism that converts the information stored in the DNA into proteins. These complexes need to be highly dynamic to respond to external factors that regulate their functions in agreement with what the cells need at that time. LÄS MER
19. Nuclear magnetic resonance and microcirculation: The influence of pulsatile brain-tissue motion on measurements of intravoxel incoherent motion and assessment of haemodynamics using exo- and endogenous tracers
Sammanfattning : In this project, the potential of magnetic resonance (MR) imaging and spectroscopy in studies of microcirculation and haemodynamics was evaluated. The spatial and temporal characteristics of human pulsatile brain-tissue movements in healthy individuals, relevant for the understanding of the cerebrospinal-fluid (CSF) circulation and the pathogenesis of hydrocephalus, were thoroughly investigated. 20. Characterization of folding dynamics and accelerated electron transfer in proteins
Sammanfattning : The research presented in this thesis is divided in two: The first part is a study of the intracellular protein human copper zinc superoxide dismutase which has been associated with the fatale disease Amyotrophic lateral Selerosis (ALS). ALS is a progressive neurodegenerative disease of motor neurons, and in the cases where the disease is inheriled (fALS), roughly 15% is caused by mutations in human copper·zinc superoxide dismutase (CuZnSOD).
