  1. 1. Holistic approach in engineering design - controlling risks from accidental hazards in bridge design

    Författare :Ivar Björnsson; Avdelningen för Konstruktionsteknik; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; design; codes; accidental; extreme; bridges; holistic; approach; robustness; risk; reliability; uncertainty;

    Sammanfattning : Engineering design, in concise terms, is what engineers do using what they know. It is the underlying decision making activity that determines what is to be built and how it should be built. An ever present requirement in engineering design is that the structure should be safe. Sammanfattning : This thesis aims to develop knowledge about value-awareness in website design. To achieve the aim - this thesis investigates values in thedesign of Swedish municipality web sites through a perspective ofinherited values. It covers the designer perspectives’ intentions andreasons as well as user experiences and expectations. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Towards an understanding of the consequences of technology-driven decision support for maritime navigation

    Författare :Katie A Aylward; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Human factors; human-automation interaction; decision support; safety; sociotechnical systems; maritime navigation; decision-making; MASS; automation;

    Sammanfattning : The maritime industry is undergoing a transformation driven by digitalization and connectivity. There is speculation that in the next two decades the maritime industry will witness changes far exceeding those experienced over the past 100 years. LÄS MER

  4. 4. High-Performance Building Design and Decision-Making Support for Architects in the Early Design Phases

    Författare :Juan Ren; Ivo Martinac; Yu Liu; Angela Sasic Kalagasidis; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :High-performance building HPB ; sustainable performance; design decision making; building environmental assessment BEA tools; architects; design decision elements; sources of inspiration;

    Sammanfattning : Based on the design decision making process from an architect’s point of view, a related literature review, theoretical analyses, and inductive inferences, this thesis proposes a new interpretation of high-performance building (HPB), translates/maps criteria issues related to building environmental assessment (BEA) tools for key design decision making elements, and identifies sources of inspiration for HPB designs. This thesis intends to propose an integrated conceptual model for the design of HPBs to provide direct knowledge-based decision making support to architects in the early design phase. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Temporality in the Interaction Design of Information Systems

    Författare :Anna Gryszkiewicz; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; temporality; Crisis management; information systems; interaction design; disaster management; human-computer interaction; time;

    Sammanfattning : ABSTRACTThis thesis contributes with two tools that can be used by designers and researchers in exploring how to address time in the design of crisis response and management information systems. By crisis management information system is here meant information systems used by local and regional authorities when responding to events that may disturb important societal functions, such as: floods, storms, terror attacks, and spreading of infectious diseases.
