  1. 6. Urban impact on water bodies in the Luleå area, northern Sweden

    Författare :Ralf Rentz; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Applied Geology; Tillämpad geologi;

    Sammanfattning : Anthropogenic activities change the quality of urban waters and sediments. The aim of this study was to describe and quantify pollution from different point sources in Luleå, northern Sweden. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Nya vatten, dunkla speglingar : industriell kolonialism genom svensk vattenkraftutbyggnad i renskötselområdet 1910-1968

    Författare :Åsa Össbo; Patrik Lantto; Erland Mårald; Jon Moen; Björg Evjen; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Sami History; Reindeer Husbandry; Hydropower Development; Industrial Colonialism; Governmentality; Discourse Analysis; Samisk historia; Rennäring; Vattenkraftutbyggnad; Industriell kolonialism; Governmentalitet; Diskursanalys; History; historia;

    Sammanfattning : Hydropower development was one of the first systematic large-scale exploitations in the reindeer herding areas within Swedish borders. Therefore, this thesis departs from postcolonial approaches wherein the Swedish state policy and practice towards Sami, reindeer herders and Sápmi, the Sami homeland, is analysed as colonialism in relation to hydropower development. 3. 8. Glacial geology and palaeo-ice dynamics of two ice-sheet margins, Taymyr Peninsula, Siberia and Jameson Land, East Greenland

    Författare :Helena Alexanderson; Kvartärgeologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ice dynamics; Pleistocene; Arctic Siberia; East Greenland; Sedimentology; Physical geography; Sedimentologi; pedology; geomorphology; klimatologi; kartografi; marklära; geomorfologi; cartography; Fysisk geografi; ice-marginal processes; glacial history; climatology;

    Sammanfattning : The North Taymyr ice-marginal zone (NTZ) on the Taymyr Peninsula, Arctic Siberia and the Ugleelv Valley on Jameson Land, East Greenland, have been investigated with the aim of reconstructing the glacial history, including depositional processes and environments. Geomorphological, sedimentological, stratigraphical and remote sensing methods have been combined to give a comprehensive view of developments in the two areas. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Function and dynamics of woody debris in boreal forest streams

    Författare :Niklas Dahlström; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ecology; Boreal forest; CPOM; CWD; forest management; geomorphology; LWD; riparian forest; retention; residence time; streams; Sweden; woody debris; Ekologi; Terrestrial; freshwater and marine ecology; Terrestisk; limnisk och marin ekologi;

    Sammanfattning : The work in this thesis deals with (1) the effects of woody debris on stream channel morphology and retention of organic material, and (2) the dynamics of woody debris and its relation to riparian forest history and composition. The studied stream reaches are situated in mature, productive forests in the boreal zone of Sweden. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Critical hydraulic gradients in tailings dams : comparison to natural analogies

    Författare :Isabel Jantzer; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Soil Mechanics; Geoteknik;

    Sammanfattning : The increasing demand of metals and minerals has made it economical for the mining industry to mine low-grade deposits, which results in immense quantities of by-products. In fact, such by-products, i.e. tailings, are the largest waste volumes produced on earth. LÄS MER
