  1. 1. The Shepherds of Þjórsárver. : Traditional Use and Hydropower Development in the Commons of the Icelandic Highland

    Författare :Helga Ögmundardóttir; Hugh Beach; Gísli Pálsson; Mark Nuttall; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Land use disputes; local peoples; sheep herding; damming; commons; identity; traditions; nationalism; Þjórsárver wetland reserve.; Cultural anthropology; Kulturantropologi; Kulturantropologi; Cultural Anthropology;

    Sammanfattning : This study explores a damming dispute that has been going on for over four decades in Iceland, about whether a dam, Norðlingaölduveita, should be built in the central highland, near the glacier Hofsjökull and the wetland reserve Þjórsárver, or not.  The study focuses on the local resistance against the dam, led by a group of people in the farming community Gnúpverjahreppur, which has its highland grazing commons in the Þjórsárver area. 2. 2. The Weichselian in southern Sweden and southwestern Baltic Sea : glacial stratigraphy, palaeoenvironments and deglaciation chronology

    Författare :Johanna Anjar; Kvartärgeologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis the Weichselian glaciation history of southernmost Sweden and the southwestern Baltic Basin is discussed, with special emphasis on Middle and Late Weichselian ice advances and subsequent deglaciations. The main study area was Kriegers Flak in the southwestern Baltic Sea where pre-Late Weichselian sediments were identified. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Hydraulic- hydromorphologic analysis as an aid for improving peak flow predictions

    Författare :Anna Åkesson; Anders Wörman; Göran Lindström; Rolf Larsson; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Hydrological modelling; peak flow predictions; distributed routing; parameterisation; stage-dependency; Hydrology; Hydrologi;

    Sammanfattning : Conventional hydrological compartmental models have been shown to exhibit a high degree of uncertainty for predictions of peak flows, such as the design floods for design of hydropower infrastructure. One reason for these uncertainties is that conventional models are parameterised using statistical methods based on how catchments have responded in the past. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Late Weichselian and early Holocene shore displacement in the central Baltic, based on stratigraphical and morphological records from eastern Småland and Gotland, Sweden

    Författare :Nils-Olof Svensson; Kvartärgeologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; pollen; Paleontologi; Shore displacement; Land uplift; Paleobotanic;

    Sammanfattning : The glacial unloading and resulting isostatic land uplift have together with hydro-isostasy, eustatic rise of sea-level and geoidal changes, ruled the shore displacement of Fennoscandia. Within the Baltic basin, periods of damming and shifts of outlet further complicated the shore displacement during the period studied, c. 12,200-8400 BP. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Linking landscape variables, hydrology and weathering regime in Taiga and Tundra ecoregions of Northern Sweden

    Författare :Erik Smedberg; Christoph Humborg; Robert Striegl; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Taiga and tundra; high-latitude; carbon fluxes; weathering; hydrological alterations; Earth sciences; Geovetenskap; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : High-latitude watersheds have been regarded as a carbon sink with soil carbon accumulating at low temperature. This sink is now believed to turn into a source, acting as positive feedback to climate warming. LÄS MER
