I och med globalt minskande produktivitetsvinster från ingenjörsarbete samt ”outtrassliga” (wicked) problem i utvecklingen av mekatroniska system – med sedan länge rapporterade utmaningar så som brist på gemensam systemförståelse, avsaknad av gemensamt språk för koncept, och disparata mentala modeller – så blir det kritiskt att förstå de faktiskt gällande uppfattningar av komplexitet och kompetens inom utvecklingsprojekt.
