  1. 26. Characterization of PAC-contaminated soil with the focus on availability, leachability and biological activities

    Författare :Monika M. Lam; Magnus Engwall; Maria Larsson; Patrik Andersson; Örebro universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Polycyclic aromatic compounds; Availability; Mobility; Soil; Risk assessment; AhR-mediated activity; ER-mediated activity;

    Sammanfattning : Current risk assessments of polycyclic aromatic compounds (PACs)-contaminated soil are often based on the 16 priority PAHs and do not consider availability of PACs in soil sufficiently. This may lead to uncertainties of the assessment, since important contaminants can be overlooked and only a small fraction of contaminants is available for the uptake for organisms. LÄS MER

  2. 27. Batch Sorption Studies of Aqueous Cadmium and Lead from Contaminated Water onto Selected Biosorbents

    Författare :Grace Kizito Bakyayita; Ann-Catrine Norrström; Robinah N. Kulabako; Maimuna Nalubega; Roger Thunvik; Ann-Margret Hvitt Strömvall; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Biosorbents; cadmium; competitive uptake; Freundlich; pseudo-second-order kinetics; Langmuir; lead; remediation; risks; speciation; toxicity effects; Mark- och vattenteknik; Land and Water Resources Engineering;

    Sammanfattning : Groundwater, wastewater, surface runoff and surface water samples from Lake Victoria basin, Uganda was assessed for trace metals contamination. Untreated, base-treated and peroxide-treated biosorbents from Albizia coriaria, Coffea canephora, Cyperus papyrus, Erythrina abyssinica and Musa spp were investigated for removal of selected trace metals from contaminated water in batch studies. 3. 28. Multimethod characterization of a chlorinated solvents contaminated site and geoelectrical monitoring of in-situ bioremediation

    Författare :Aristeidis Nivorlis; Teknisk geologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Geoelectrical monitoring; induced polarization 1P ; contamination remediation geophysics; Time-lapse inversion; autonomous geophysical monitoring;

    Sammanfattning : Soil contamination is a widespread problem and actions need to be taken in order toprevent damage to the groundwater and the life around the contaminated sites. InSweden more than 80.000 sites are potentially contaminated, therefore there is ademand for accurate and efficient methods for site characterization and soilremediation. LÄS MER

  4. 29. Remediation of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substance-contaminated soil and groundwater, using electrokinetic and stabilisation methods

    Författare :Georgios Niarchos; Fritjof Fagerlund; Anett Georgi; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; PFAS; contamination; emerging contaminants; forever chemicals; pollution; soil; groundwater; remediation; electrokinetic; stabilisation; activated carbon;

    Sammanfattning : Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, commonly known as PFAS, are emerging contaminants with a worldwide environmental distribution and a concerning (eco)toxicological profile. The omnipresence of PFAS in various environmental media poses risks to the quality of our drinking water sources. LÄS MER

  5. 30. Geochemical processes in sulphidic mine tailings : field and laboratory studies performed in northern Sweden at the Laver, Stekenjokk and Kristineberg mine-sites

    Författare :Henning Holmström; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Applied Geology; Tillämpad geologi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis presents geochemical, mineralogical and laboratory studies of unremediated and remediated tailings at two abandoned mine sites; at Laver and Stekenjokk and at one active mine site; the Kristineberg mine. At Laver the Cu released from oxidation is enriched in an enrichment zone just below the oxidation front. LÄS MER
