6. Assessing Soil Functions for Sustainable Remediation of Contaminated Sites
Sammanfattning : Soil contamination is a worldwide problem. Soil remediation is often carried out to reduce the risks posed by contaminants in the soil to human health and environment. Contaminant concentration is typically the only soil quality aspect maintained in remediation projects. LÄS MER
7. Electroremediation of contaminated soil
Sammanfattning : Electroremediation was applied to contaminated soils in order to study the transport of metals and organic compounds by the external electric field. The electric field caused acidic conditions near the anode, so that copper, zinc, lead, nickel, cadmium, calcium and manganese were released from soil from a chlor-alkali site. LÄS MER
8. Chlorinated organic pollutants in soil and groundwater at chlorophenol-contaminated sawmill sites
Sammanfattning : Mixtures of chlorinated organic pollutants can be found in the soils at chlorophenol-contaminated sawmill, including (inter alia) polychlorinated phenols (CPs), phenoxyphenols (PCPPs), diphenyl ethers (PCDEs), dibenzofurans (PCDFs) and dioxins (PCDDs). These hydrophobic compounds have low water solubility and hence low mobility as truly dissolved compounds. LÄS MER
9. Landslide of contaminated soil into rivers: Environmental impacts and risks
Sammanfattning : Landslide risk assessments and environmental risk assessments are routinely carried out in many countries exposed to landslide hazards and/or contaminated soil hazards, but separately from each other. By combining results from different types of risk assessments and superimposing the results, possible multi-hazards may be revealed, which is not the case when the results are only displayed independently. 10. Our Bones, who art contaminated : Glues, strontium isotopes, and mobility in early Swedish Christians
Sammanfattning : This thesis aims to build upon previous research into contamination and its effects on isotopes by focusing on the strontium isotopic ratio (87Sr/86Sr), which is used in mobility studies to study the movements of past humans and animals and to build past economic trading networks. Contamination is a broad topic, and in the scope of this thesis, it concerns the introduction of contaminants from the soil after interment and the post-excavation preservation efforts. LÄS MER
