31. A Deep Dive into Sediments : Exploring approaches to assess environmental risks and achieving environmental goals in management of contaminated sediments in Sweden
Sammanfattning : Contaminated sediments are common, especially near urban and industrialized areas, and they can have negative ecological effects. In three studies, I explore the challenges for environmental management of contaminated sediments, focusing on environmental risk assessment (ERA) in Sweden. LÄS MER
32. Hydrogeological modeling to improve remediation strategies for a drinking water aquifer contaminated by an aqueous phase liquid
Sammanfattning : In many communities, groundwater is an important source of drinking water. Groundwater aquifers are, however, vulnerable to the widespread and increasing problem of contamination from anthropogenic sources. Once in the groundwater, contaminants are likely to remain there for a long time as the attenuation rate is slow. LÄS MER
33. Hazard Identification of Anti-fouling Paints and Contaminated Sediments by the Use of Biological Tests in Brackish Water
Sammanfattning : Ecotoxicological test methods are important tools in environmental risk assessment to investigate possible adverse effects that chemical substances may cause to aquatic ecosystems. The main aim of this doctoral thesis was to identify potential toxicity (hazard) of anti-fouling compounds and paints as well as contaminated sediments. LÄS MER
34. Application of two dimensional compound specific carbon-chlorine isotope analyses for degradation monitoring and assessment of organic pollutants in contaminated soil and groundwater
Sammanfattning : Nearly 250,000 sites with past and present potentially polluting activities need urgent remediation within Europe. Major pollutants include organochlorines (OCls), e.g. chlorinated ethenes (CEs) and hexachlorocyclohexanes (HCHs), mainly used as industrial solvents and pesticides, respectively. LÄS MER
35. Uncertainty in environmental decision-making : effects of defined or undefined guidance in the decision process
Sammanfattning : Decision-making in environmental issues often includes uncertainty in the input data and the resulting uncertainty when the data is used. Some spatial decisions are however taken without any formal analysis, meaning that the decision-makers have a mental map and preconceived notions about the decision options before the final decision actually is taken.
