  1. 16. Hormone concentrations during pregnancy and maternal risk of epithelial ovarian cancer

    Författare :Helena Schock; Eva Lundin; Annika Idahl; Renée Turzanski Fortner; Anne Zeleniuch-Jacquotte; Shelley S Tworoger; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; epithelial ovarian cancer; sex steroid hormones; IGF-I; placental GH; AMH; pregnancy; prospective study; patologi; Pathology;

    Sammanfattning : Background: The aim of this thesis was to study the relationship of pre-diagnostic circulating concentrations of sex steroid hormones (androgens, estradiol, 17-hydroxyprogesterone, and progesterone), growth factors (insulin-like growth factor-I (IGF-I), placental growth hormone (GH)), sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG), and anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) with risk of epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) overall, and by tumor invasiveness and histology. A longitudinal study was used to assess patterns of hormonal changes during a single pregnancy, and in two consecutive pregnancies. LÄS MER

  2. 17. Aspects of regular long-term endurance exercise in adolescents, with focus on cardiac size and function, hormones, and the immune system

    Författare :Louise Rundqvist; Maria Faresjö; Peter Blomstrand; Katarina Steding-Ehrenborg; Jönköping University; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; adolescence; endurance-trained; cardiac dimension; cardiac systolic function; cardiac diastolic function; growth hormone; immune response; echocardiography; biomarkers; cytokines; chemokines; insulin-like growth factor 1; type 1 diabetes-related autoantigen; proinsulin;

    Sammanfattning : The long-term effects of starting high-intensity training at younger ages are largely unknown. The present studies focused on adolescents who had performed regular endurance exercise for several years at an elite level and compared those subjects with a control group of adolescents of similar age and sex who had not engaged in regular exercise. 3. 18. Regulation of glucose transport and insulin-stimulated GLUT4 translocation in skeletal muscle

    Författare :Jorge E Rincón Viatela; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :skeletal muscle; glucose transport; insulin resistance; hyperglycaemia; steroid hormones; smoking; nicotine;

    Sammanfattning : Skeletal muscle represents about 40% of body mass and accounts for at least 80% of glucose disposal under insulin-stimulated conditions. Furthermore, GLUT4 transport protein is the primary component of the glucose transport system in skeletal muscle. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Immunological changes in human blood and skeletal muscle in response to physical exercise

    Författare :Christer Malm; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Eccentric exercise; soccer; football; adaptation; immune system; muscle; inflammation; damage; leukocytes; growth factors; cytokines; adhesion; signaling; hormones.;

    Sammanfattning : Physical exercise is essential for maintaining normal function of skeletal muscle. Muscle tissue also has a remarkable capacity for adaptation to changes in physical demand. In fact, without stimulation from physical activity, muscle tissue will atrophy. LÄS MER

  5. 20. Effects of palatable diets on appetite regulation, appetite peptides and neurogenesis

    Författare :Andreas Lindqvist; Aptitkontroll; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; sekretion; Endokrinologi; diabetologi; Appetite regulation; Ghrelin; Obesity; Leptin; Endocrinology; diabetology; secreting systems;

    Sammanfattning : Obesity is increasing throughout the world at an epidemic rate, partly due to increased consumption of diets rich in fat and/or sugar. Ghrelin and leptin are hormones, originating from the periphery, involved in the regulation of food intake and of maintaining energy homeostasis. LÄS MER
