  1. 6. Cellular effects of ionizing radiation : Relevant for understanding cancer risk after medical and environmental radiation exposures

    Författare :Pamela Chiaka Akuwudike; Andrzej Wojcik; Lovisa Lundholm; Kerstin Borgmann; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Radiation; DNA damage; radiation-induced carcinogenesis; second primary cancer; cisplatin chemoradiotherapy; dose fractionation; low dose; low dose rate; dose and dose rate effectiveness factor DDREF ; molekylär biovetenskap; Molecular Bioscience;

    Sammanfattning : Radiation-induced cancers are stochastic and delayed effects of exposure to ionizing radiation. The dose-response relationship for radiation-induced cancers at both low dose/low dose rates and high doses (doses encountered during radiotherapy) remains unclear. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Localization of lipoprotein lipase in mouse pancreas, kidney and placenta : impact of metabolic disturbances on cellular distribution and activity regulation

    Författare :Rakel Nyrén; Gunilla Olivecrona; Paolo Parini; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Lipoprotein lipase; pancreas; kidney; placenta; angiopoietin-like protein 4; high-fat diet; obesity; mice; PET CT; nutritional status; triglyceride; GPIHBP1; medicinsk och fysiologisk kemi; Medical and Physiological Chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : Lipoprotein lipase (LPL) is the key enzyme for metabolism of triglycerides in plasma lipoproteins. In recent years many new facts about the enzyme and its regulation have been uncovered. The endothelial membrane protein GPIHBP1 translocates LPL through endothelial cells and holds the enzyme in place at the luminal side of the capillary endothelium. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Modeling Biophysical Mechanisms underlying Cellular Homeostasis

    Författare :Padideh Kamali-Zare; Hjalmar Brismar; Charles Nicholson; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biological physics; Biologisk fysik;

    Sammanfattning : Cellular homeostasis is the effort of all living cells to maintain their intracellular content when facing physiological change(s) in the extracellular environment. To date, cellular homeostasis is known to be regulated mainly by time-consuming active mechanisms and via multiple signaling pathways within the cells. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Enterococcal distribution and responses toenvironmental waters

    Författare :Ebraheem M. Elmarghani; Jana Jass; Per-Erik Olsson; Nikolai Scherbak; Örebro universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Enviromental Science; Miljövetenskap; Mikrobiologi; Microbiology;

    Sammanfattning : The release of antibiotics and pharmaceuticals into environmental waters contribute to the increasing risk of antibiotic resistant bacteria. The spread of antibiotic resistant bacteria in the environment increases the health risks to the community. Enterococci are fecal indicator bacteria (FIB) in aquatic environments for determining water quality. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Congestion control in wireless cellular networks

    Författare :Sara Landström; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Through the introduction of the third generation of mobile cellular network technologies a major step towards a ubiquitious and wireless access to the Internet has been taken. There are however still challenges due to the different characteristics and prerequisites of wired and wireless networks. An important network element is congestion control. LÄS MER
