    Sammanfattning : Apoptosis is one of the most common types of cell death. Under physiological conditions, it plays an essential role in removal of damaged and potentially harmful cells. Excessive apoptosis has however been linked to a number of diseases including proteinuric kidney disease and DKD, and is believed to enhance the disease progression. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Studies of individual pancreatic -cells : Electrophysiological analysis of rhythmic behaviour and development of new techniques

    Författare :Staffan Dryselius; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cell biology; Diabetes; pancreatic beta-cells; insulin release; signal transduction; cytoplasmic calcium; oscillations; patch clamp; ATP-regulated potassium channels; voltage-dependent calcium channels; metabolism; calcium ion; strontium ion; manganese ion; wavelets; de-noising; pattern recognition; superfusion; solution changes; microscopic labelling; Cellbiologi; Cell biology; Cellbiologi; medicinsk cellbiologi; Medical Cell Biology;

    Sammanfattning : The insulin concentration in blood varies periodically, which is believed to prevent down-regulation of the hormone receptors. Loss of the regular insulin oscillations is considered to be an early sign of developing diabetes. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Genetic Mechanisms during Terminal Cell Fate Specification in the Drosophila CNS

    Författare :Johannes Stratmann; Stefan Thor; Jan-Ingvar Jönsson; Christos Samakovlis; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Specification of the many unique neuronal subtypes found in the nervous system depends on spatiotemporal cues and terminal selector cascades, mostly acting in sequential combinatorial codes of transcription factors (TFs) to dictate cell fate. Out of 10,000 cells in the Drosophila embryonic ventral nerve cord (VNC), only 28 cells selectively express Nplp1. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Imaging-based methods for NK cell studies at the single-cell level

    Författare :Quentin Verron; Björn Önfelt; Niklas Sandström; Michael Dustin; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Immunology; NK cells; microscopy; single-cell; Biological and Biomedical Physics; Biologisk och biomedicinsk fysik;

    Sammanfattning : The immune system provides defense against infectious agents such as viruses, bacteria and parasites. Besides eliminating extracellular agents, the immune system also constantly monitors our own cells for signs of transformation, including tumor development and virus infection. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Genetic pathways controlling CNS development : The role of Notch signaling in regulating daughter cell proliferation in Drosophila

    Författare :Caroline Bivik Stadler; Stefan Thor; Jan-Ingvar Jönsson; Allison Bardin; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : The human central nervous system (CNS) displays the greatest cellular diversity of any organ system, consisting of billions of neurons, of numerous cell sub-types, interconnected in a vast network. Given this enormous complexity, decoding the genetic programs controlling the multistep process of CNS development remains a major challenge. LÄS MER
