1. Post-Cardiac Arrest Care : Therapeutic Hypothermia, Patient Outcomes and Relatives’ Experiences
Sammanfattning : The overall aim of the thesis was to study post-resuscitation care of cardiac arrest (CA) patients with a focus on therapeutic hypothermia treatment, outcomes up to six months post-CA and relatives’ experiences during the hospital stay.In Paper I, the aim was to asses effectiveness of hypothermia treatment with cold, 4°C, intravenous crystalloid infusion combined with ice packs. 2. Post Cardiac Arrest Care : Evaluation of prognostic tools, Patient outcomes and Relatives’ experiences at 6 months after the event
Sammanfattning : The overall aim of the present thesis was to study post-resuscitation care of cardiac arrest (CA) patients treated with target temperature management 33°C with a focus on evaluation of two prognostic tools: variations in cerebral venous saturation and acute magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings on the brain post-CA. An additional aim was to investigate patients’ neurological outcome and relatives’ experiences 6 months after the event. LÄS MER
3. Novel Interventions in Cardiac Arrest : Targeted Temperature Management, Methylene Blue, S-PBN, Amiodarone, Milrinone and Esmolol, Endothelin and Nitric Oxide In Porcine Resuscitation Models
Sammanfattning : It is a major clinical problem that survival rates after out-of-hospital cardiac arrest have not markedly improved during the last decades, despite extensive research and the introduction of new interventions. However, recent studies have demonstrated promising treatments such as targeted temperature management (TTM) and methylene blue (MB). LÄS MER
4. Improving care for patients with non-cardiac chest pain : Description of psychological distress and costs, and evaluation of an Internet-delivered intervention
Sammanfattning : Introduction: More than half of all patients seeking care for chest pain do not have a cardiac cause for this pain. Despite recurrent episodes of chest pain, many patients are discharged without a clear explanation of the cause for their pain. LÄS MER
5. Continuity of care after hospitalization due to cardiac conditions : Patients' perceptions, validity and reliability of a measure, and associations with outcomes
Sammanfattning : Background: Cardiac conditions are a common cause of hospitalization worldwide. The need for healthcare continues after hospital discharge and most commonly includes follow-up within primary healthcare centers or specialized outpatient cardiology clinics. LÄS MER
