  1. 1. God in the act of reference : A conceptual analysis of reference and reality and its consequences for the debate on religious realism and nonrealism

    Författare :Erica Appelros; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Religion; reference; realism; nonrealism; Cupitt; reality; play; make-believe; pragmatics; God; Donnellan; Bezuidenhout; Religionsvetenskap Teologi; Religion Theology; Religionsvetenskap Teologi; Studies In Faiths and Ideologies; tros- och livsåskådningsvetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : The dissertation addresses the problem of reference actualised in religiousrealism's claim that religious nonrealism is religiously inadequate since init "God" does not refer to a God existing independently of human conceptualisations. The study aims to show that the referential argument against religious nonrealism is not necessarily successful once the existential and referential presumptions of the argument are critically examined. 2. 2. Stroke severity and outcome : in search of predictors using a population-based strategy

    Författare :Peter Appelros; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Stroke; incidence; epidemiology; risk factors; prognosis; outcome;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis, based on studies conducted in Örebro, the main municipality of Örebro County in Sweden, sought: 1) to determine the incidence rate and case fatality of first-ever stroke in a well-defined population; 2) to show the effects of selection bias on the frequency of different stroke characteristics; 3) to establish the incidence of neglect and anosognosia and their impact on disability; 4) to show the impact of pre-stroke risk factors on stroke severity and case fatality; and 5) to show the influence of stroke severity and other risk factor on one year mortality, on dependency after one year and on the risk of recurrent stroke. All first-ever cases of stroke were registered during a 12-month period 1999-2000. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Acute pancreatitis. With special reference to the activation peptide from carboxypeptidase B (CAPAP) as a predictor of severity

    Författare :Stefan Appelros; Kirurgi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; accuracy; exocrine dysfunction; radioimmunoassay; CAPAP; carboxypeptidase B; activation peptide; aetiology; prediction of severity; morbidity; mortality; severe acute pancreatitis; Incidence; acute pancreatitis; sensitivity; specificity; Surgery; orthopaedics; traumatology; Kirurgi; ortopedi; traumatologi;

    Sammanfattning : There is a wide range in the reported annual incidence of acute pancreatitis (AP). A minority of these patients develop a severe disease characterised by a high mortality and morbidity. In order to improve the outcome for patients with an attack of severe AP it is important to identify these patients early in the course of disease. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Physiotherapeutic perspectives on balance control after stroke : exercises, experiences and measures

    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Stroke; balance; physiotherapy; measures; experiences;

    Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this thesis was to investigate physiotherapeutic perspectives on balance after stroke, in terms of exercises, experiences and measurements. Study I was a pilot randomized controlled trial with 46 persons who had had a stroke, 24 of whom were included in the intervention group and 22 who were included in the control group. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Life-course influences on occurrence and outcome for stroke and coronary heart disease

    Författare :Cecilia Bergh; Scott Montgomery; Katja Fall; Ylva Nilsagård; Peter Appelros; Meena Kumari; Örebro universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cardiovascular disease; stroke; risk factors; adolescence; stress resilience; adult infections; life-course epidemiology; cohort study;

    Sammanfattning : Although typical clinical onset does not occur until adulthood, cardiovascular disease (CVD) may have a long natural history with accumulation of risks beginning in early life and continuing through childhood and into adolescence and adulthood. Therefore, it is important to adopt a life-course approach to explore accumulation of risks, as well as identifying age-defined windows of susceptibility, from early life to disease onset. LÄS MER
