  1. 11. Mechanisms controlling midbrain dopaminergic neuron development

    Författare :Shanzheng Yang; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The degeneration of midbrain dopaminergic (mDA) neurons accounts for some of the main motor symptoms of Parkinson’s disease (PD). Efforts during the last decades have focused on understanding how mDA neurons are generated and maintained with the hope of developing novel stem cell-based replacement therapies. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Bringing Visibility in the Clouds : using Security, Transparency and Assurance Services

    Författare :Mudassar Aslam; Mats Björkman; Christian Gehrmann; Chris Mitchell; Mälardalens högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cloud Security; Trusted Computing; Trustworthy Clouds; Cloud Audits; Security Automation; SCAP; Virtual Machine; Computer Science; datavetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : The evolution of cloud computing allows the provisioning of IT resources over the Internet and promises many benefits for both - the service users and providers. Despite various benefits offered by cloud based services, many users hesitate in moving their IT systems to the cloud mainly due to many new security problems introduced by cloud environments. 3. 13. On the influence of glia on neurite outgrowth from dopamine neurons in the nigrostriatal system

    Författare :Malin Saga Johansson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Dopamine; glia; astrocytes; olfactory ensheathing cells; development; ni-grostriatal; mesencephalon; Parkinson s disease; 6-hydroxydopamine;

    Sammanfattning : Interactions between glial cells and neurons are important during fetal development, in the maintenance of the normal functions in tile central nervous system (CNS), arid in response to injuries or diseases. Some of die motor disturbances in Parkinson's disease, a neurodegenerative disorder where one of the hallmarks is degeneration of dopamine (DA) neurons and concomitant depletion of DA in striatum, can be alleviated by intrastriatal grafting of embryonic DA tissue. 4. 14. Interaction between nerve fiber formation and astrocytes

    Författare :Sanazalsadat Hashemian; Ingrid Strömberg; Elisabet Åkesson; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; dopamine; nerve fiber outgrowth; astrocytes; ventral mesencephalon; spinal cord; CSPG; CD47;

    Sammanfattning : Parkinson’s disease, the second most common neurodegenerative disorder,is characterized by loss of nigrostriatal dopaminergic neurons. To date,there is no defined cause and cure for the disease. An ideal treatmentstrategy is to replace the lost neurons by transplanting fetal dopaminergicneurons to the brain of parkinsonian patients. 5. 15. Chemokines and their role in dopaminergic development

    Författare :Linda C Edman; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The main pathological hallmark in Parkinson s disease (PD) is the progressive loss of dopaminergic (DA) neurons in the substantia nigra (SN), affecting movements such as walking, talking and writing. Today, there is no cure available for PD and existing treatments only provide symptomatic relief, but the prospect of using stem cell based cell replacement therapies for patients with PD have provided new optimism.
