1. Surfaces of Honed Cylinder Liners
Sammanfattning : Cylinder liner surfaces are often on the agenda of engine developers because of their large influence on the frictional losses, oil consumption and emissions of internal combustion engines. Improving the liner function involves not only manufacturing new surfaces and checking their function but also characterising them as a necessary intermediate step for better understanding of the changes made. 2. Laser Based Flow Measurements to Evaluate Hydraulic Conditions for Migrating Fish and Benthic Fauna
Sammanfattning : Hydropower is one of the main sources for Sweden’s energy, which is clean and renewable. It is a clean energy source because no fuels are burned which does not pollute the air and it is a renewable energy source as it only uses natural water cycle for generating energy. LÄS MER
3. Closed-Loop Combustion Control of a Multi Cylinder HCCI Engine using Variable Compression Ratio and Fast Thermal Management
Sammanfattning : The current Spark Ignited (SI) engine equipped with three-way catalyst offers low emissions, but has low efficiency at part load, which results in unnecessarily high CO2 emissions. The Compression Ignited (CI) engines have higher efficiency and hence lower CO2 emissions, but suffer from higher Nitrogen Oxide (NOx) and Particulate Matter (PM) emissions, and no three-way catalyst can be used. 4. ɸ‑sensitivity : A step forward in future fuels evaluation
Sammanfattning : Internal combustion engine is a developed and established technology whichcontributes largely to the transportation of goods and people. In one hand, theburning of fossil fuels is the main reason for the combustion engines to beconsidered unsustainable while on the other hand, the combustion behaviour ofrenewable fuels is not fully understood yet. 5. Selected Topics in Continuum Percolation : Phase Transitions, Cover Times and Random Fractals
Sammanfattning : This thesis consists of an introduction and three research papers. The subject is probability theory and in particular concerns the topics of percolation, cover times and random fractals.Paper I deals with the Poisson Boolean model in locally compact Polish metric spaces. LÄS MER
