26. The genetics of experimental arthritis in rodents
Sammanfattning : Unravelling the genetic susceptibility to complex autoimmune diseases and understanding these pathologies on a mechanistic level are major obstacles to improve our possibilities for therapeutic intervention and an increase in the quality of life of affected patients. Studies in experimental rodent models, that can be run under stable environmental conditions, which itself can be subjected to experimental manipulation, and in cohorts of potentially unlimited size, hold significant promise for the understanding of genes and pathways involved in complex autoimmune diseases. 27. On Fever Mechanisms & Preoptic Signalling
Sammanfattning : Fever, a 1-4 °C elevation of the body temperature, is part of the systemic inflammatory response to infection or tissue damage, and it is believed to be a potent host defence. The underlying physiological mechanisms of the febrile response are one of the two main objectives in this thesis, where studies conducted in whole animals (rats and mice), chiefly aimed at clarifying the cytokine cascade in fever. 28. Hands-on osteoporosis screening with digital x-ray radiogrammetry
Sammanfattning : According to epidemiological studies about one third of women and one fifth of men over 50 years will experience a fragility fracture. These fractures account for substantial mortality, morbidity and health care cost. Osteoporosis is a silent disease and thus often goes undiagnosed for a long time. LÄS MER
29. Datorträning i läsflyt och stavning : analys och utvärdering av fixerad och resultatstyrd flash-cardexponering
Sammanfattning : During the last decade new attention has been paid to reading fluency. One reason might be that training studies often have failed to provide growth in reading rate in spite of the fact that the accuracy problem was remediated. LÄS MER
30. Rhodium diesel-reforming catalysts for fuel cell applications
Sammanfattning : Heavy-duty diesel truck engines are routinely idled at standstill to provide cab heating or air conditioning, and in addition to supply electricity to comfort units such as radio and TV. Idling is an inefficient and unfavorable process resulting in increased fuel consumption, increased emissions, shortened engine life, impaired driver rest and health, and elevated noise. LÄS MER
