  1. 1. Neurotransmission and functional synaptic plasticity in the rat medial preoptic nucleus

    Författare :Evgenya Malinina; Staffan Johansson; Eric Hanse; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; medial preoptic nucleus; synaptic plasticity; GABA; glutamate; L-type Ca2 channel; Physiology; Fysiologi; fysiologi; Physiology;

    Sammanfattning : Brain function implies complex information processing in neuronal circuits, critically dependent on the molecular machinery that enables signal transmission across synaptic contacts between neurons. The types of ion channels and receptors in the neuronal membranes vary with neuron types and brain regions and determine whether neuronal responses will be excitatory or inhibitory and often allow for functional synaptic plasticity which is thought to be the basis for much of the adaptability of the nervous system and for our ability to learn and store memories. 2. 2. Short-term adaptation of S. cerevisiae to lignocellulosic inhibitors: Underlying metabolic and physiological changes

    Författare :Marlous van Dijk; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; lignocellulosic inhibitor tolerance; second generation bioethanol; short-term adaptation; differential gene expression; industrial yeast strains;

    Sammanfattning : The limited tolerance of Saccharomyces cerevisiae (budding yeast) to inhibitors present in lignocellulosic hydrolysates is a major challenge in second-generation bioethanol production. Short-term adaptation of the yeast to lignocellulosic hydrolysates during cell propagation has been shown to improve its tolerance, and thus its performance in lignocellulose fermentation. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Predictors of Outcome after Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction

    Författare :Eric Hamrin Senorski; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; anterior cruciate ligament; ACL; reconstruction; physcial therapy; concomitant injury; knee; predictors; outcome;

    Sammanfattning : An anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury is one of the most common injuries to the knee joint. It is also one of the most researched areas within sports medicine, orthopedics and physical therapy. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : Apoptosis is one of the most common types of cell death. Under physiological conditions, it plays an essential role in removal of damaged and potentially harmful cells. Excessive apoptosis has however been linked to a number of diseases including proteinuric kidney disease and DKD, and is believed to enhance the disease progression. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Psychophysiological and Performance Aspects on Motion Sickness

    Författare :Joakim Dahlman; Torbjörn Falkmer; Torbjörn Ledin; John Golding; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : Motion sickness is not an illness, but rather a natural autonomic response to an unfamiliar or specific stimulus. The bodily responses to motion sickness are highly individual and contextually dependent, making them difficult to predict. The initial autonomic responses are similar to the ones demonstrated when under stress. LÄS MER
