  1. 11. Modelling calving and sliding of Svalbard outlet glaciers : Spatio-temporal changes and interactions

    Författare :Dorothée Vallot; Rickard Pettersson; Veijo Pohjola; Ken Mattsson; Tómas Jóhannesson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; cryospheric science; glacier modelling; time-lapse imagery; undercutting; sliding inversion; discrete particle model; calving model; subglacial hydrology; sliding law; automatic detection method; calving events size and frequency; ocean interaction; melt water runoff; ice dynamics; ice flow model; Geovetenskap med inriktning mot naturgeografi; Earth Science with specialization in Physical Geography;

    Sammanfattning : Future sea level rise associated to global warming is one of the greatest societal and environmental challenges of tomorrow. A large part of the contribution comes from glaciers and ice sheets discharging ice and meltwater into the ocean and the recent worldwide increase is worrying. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Ocean mixing and polynyas at Maud Rise, Weddell Sea

    Författare :Martin Mohrmann; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Oceanography; Weddell Sea; Southern Ocean; Maud Rise; Polynya; Frontal mixing;

    Sammanfattning : The Weddell Sea Polynya is an intermittent, ice free area in the marginal ice zone with an extent of up to 350 000 km². It was first observed by satellites in the winter seasons of 1974-1976. In 2016 and 2017, an open-ocean polynya opened over the Maud Rise oceanic plateau in the eastern Weddell Sea, which was the largest since the 70’s. LÄS MER

  3. 13. The role of biogeophysical feedbacks and their impacts in the arctic and boreal climate system

    Författare :Wenxin Zhang; Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Arctic and boreal vegetation change; Biogeophysical feedbacks; Albedo; Latent heat; Carbon budget; Representative concentration pathways; Eearth system model; LPJ-GUESS; RCA; Sea ice;

    Sammanfattning : The physical environment in the northern high latitudes including the Arctic cryosphere has undergone dramatic changes due to anthropogenic greenhouse gas warming, which since pre-industrial times has been twice or more the rate of global mean warming. Global climate models predict that this accelerated warming will continue for at least the next few decades. LÄS MER

  4. 14. A large-eddy simulation perspective on Arctic airmass transformation and low-level cloud evolution

    Författare :Antonios Dimitrelos; Annica Ekman; Caballero Rodrigo; Rune Grand Graversen; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Arctic; mixed phase clouds; sea ice; Arctic amplification; atmospheric energy transport; CCN; Atmospheric Sciences and Oceanography; atmosfärvetenskap och oceanografi;

    Sammanfattning : The Arctic is currently warming faster than other regions of the Earth. Many processes and feedbacks contribute to the enhanced warming. Among these are the radiative effects of clouds. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Studies of the Arctic Ocean sea ice cover and hydrothermal heat fluxes

    Författare :Christian Stranne; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Oceanography; Arctic climate sensisitvity;

    Sammanfattning : Since reliable ice extent estimates from satellite data became available in 1979 the Arctic sea ice cover has followed a declining long term trend. Over the last decade the decline has accelerated with record low sea ice extents recorded in 2002, 2005, 2007 and 2012. LÄS MER
