  1. 1. Bioaerosols and their importance for low-level Arctic clouds

    Författare :Gabriel Pereira Freitas; Paul Zieger; Radovan Krejci; Kevin J. Noone; Claudia Mohr; Martin Gallagher; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Bioaerosols; Aerosols; Clouds; Arctic; Cloud Condensation Nuclei; Ice Nucleating Particles; Sea Spray Aerosol; Environmental Sciences; miljövetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Bioaerosols are microorganisms or functional parts of them or other biological matter suspended in air. Examples are bacteria, viruses, pollen, spores, or smaller plant debris. In the atmosphere, bioaerosols can play various functional roles, such as facilitating the spread of genetic material. LÄS MER

  2. 2. The Arctic Atmosphere : Interactions between clouds, boundary-layer turbulence and large-scale circulation

    Författare :Georgia Sotiropoulou; Michael Tjernström; Joseph Sedlar; Susanne Crewell; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Arctic; mixed-phase clouds; thermodynamic structure; Arctic inversion; cloud-surface interactions; seasonal transition; IFS model; LES; atmosfärvetenskap och oceanografi; Atmospheric Sciences and Oceanography;

    Sammanfattning : Arctic climate is changing fast, but weather forecast and climate models have serious deficiencies in representing the Arctic atmosphere, because of the special conditions that occur in this region. The cold ice surface and the advection of warm air aloft from the south result in a semi-continuous presence of a temperature inversion, known as the “Arctic inversion”, which is governed by interacting large-scale and local processes, such as surface fluxes and cloud formation. 3. 3. Investigating aerosol effects on stratocumulus clouds through large-eddy simulation

    Författare :Ines Bulatovic; Annica Ekman; Caroline Leck; Ilona Riipinen; Daniel Grosvenor; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; aerosol particles; stratocumulus; mixed-phase clouds; cloud microphysics; cloud radiative effects; Arctic; Arctic amplification; LES; aerosolpartiklar; stratusmoln; underkylda vattendroppar och iskristaller; molnmikrofysik; molnstrålningseffekter; Arktis; ”large-eddy simulation”; Atmospheric Sciences and Oceanography; atmosfärvetenskap och oceanografi;

    Sammanfattning : Clouds have a large impact on Earth’s radiative budget by reflecting, absorbing and re-emitting radiation. They thus play a critical role in the climate system. Nevertheless, cloud radiative effects in a changing climate are highly uncertain. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Remote sensing of clouds and precipitation using active and passive microwave observations

    Författare :Simon Pfreundschuh; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Microwave remote sensing; precipitation; clouds; hydrometeors;

    Sammanfattning : Global observations of clouds and precipitation are of great importance for weather prediction and the monitoring of the climate. Nonetheless, the currently available record of global observations does not constrain the properties of clouds very well owing to the inherent limitations of the observation systems used to produce them. 5. 5. Modeling aerosol-cloud interactions in the Arctic

    Författare :Hannah Frostenberg; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Mixed-phase clouds; ice nucleating particles; heterogeneous freezing; Arctic; LES-modeling; parameterization;

    Sammanfattning : Clouds have a large impact on Earth’s energy balance, especially in the Arctic. Through their warming or cooling effect on the surface, clouds can play a critical role in the onset of melting and freezing of Arctic sea ice, which itself has a large effect on energy and moisture fluxes between the ocean and the atmosphere.
