  1. 1. The role of nutrients for stream ecosystem function in Arctic landscapes : drivers of productivity under environmental change

    Författare :Maria Myrstener; Ryan A. Sponseller; Reiner Giesler; Ann-Kristin Bergström; Tenna Riis; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Nutrients; Stream; Arctic; Boreal; Primary productivity; Algae; Biofilm; Nutrient limitation; Nitrogen; Phosphorus;

    Sammanfattning : Arctic and sub-Arctic freshwaters are currently experiencing substantial ecosystem changes due to the effects of global warming. Global warming effects on these freshwaters include increasing water temperatures, altered hydrological patterns, shifts in riparian vegetation and changes in the export of nutrients and carbon from soils. 2. 2. The role of biogeophysical feedbacks and their impacts in the arctic and boreal climate system

    Författare :Wenxin Zhang; Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Arctic and boreal vegetation change; Biogeophysical feedbacks; Albedo; Latent heat; Carbon budget; Representative concentration pathways; Eearth system model; LPJ-GUESS; RCA; Sea ice;

    Sammanfattning : The physical environment in the northern high latitudes including the Arctic cryosphere has undergone dramatic changes due to anthropogenic greenhouse gas warming, which since pre-industrial times has been twice or more the rate of global mean warming. Global climate models predict that this accelerated warming will continue for at least the next few decades. LÄS MER

  3. 3. On the role of terrestrial ecosystems in a changing Arctic

    Författare :Adrian Gustafson; BECC: Biodiversity and Ecosystem services in a Changing Climate; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Northern high latitudes; Arctic climate change; climate-vegetation feedbacks; shrubs; shrubification; treeline migration; LPJ-GUESS; RCA-GUESS; nitrogen; carbon; Northern high latitudes; Arctic climate change; climate-vegetation feedbacks; shrubs; shrubification; treeline migration; LPJ-GUESS; RCA-GUESS; Nitrogen; Carbon;

    Sammanfattning : The global temperature rise is proportional to the cumulative amount of CO2 emissions to the atmosphere. This observation is consistent between climate models and historical observations. LÄS MER

  4. 4. The Role of Carbon-Nitrogen Interactions for Terrestrial Ecosystem Dynamics under Global Change - a modelling perspective

    Författare :David Wårlind; Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; C-N Interactions; Ecosystem Modelling; DGVM; Nitrogen; Carbon; Climate Change;

    Sammanfattning : The nature of future climate change will depend on anthropogenic emissions of CO2, as well as climate- and CO2-mediated feedbacks through carbon (C) cycling in both terrestrial ecosystems and oceans. Terrestrial ecosystems remove presently about 25% of the anthropogenic CO2 fossil-fuel and land-use change emissions, but to attribute which mechanisms cause this uptake, and the key regions where it occurs, is a challenging task.
