  1. 11. Psychotropic Pharmaceuticals in Aquatic Systems: An Ecological Perspective

    Författare :Melanie Hedgespeth; Enhet akvatisk ekologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ecotoxicology; aquatic; trophic level; pharmaceutical; SSRI; beta-blocker; sertraline; fluoxetine; propranolol; fish; daphnia; snail; predator; prey; behavior; life history; multiple stressor;

    Sammanfattning : Psychotropic pharmaceuticals have been shown to exert a variety of sublethal effects on non-target organisms, even at low concentrations found in the environment (ng/L to µg/L); hence, the aim of my research has been to determine the individual-level effects of psychotropic pharmaceuticals (the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors sertraline and fluoxetine, and the β-blocker propranolol) on behavioral and life history traits in freshwater organisms. Further, this research was directed towards assessing the potential large-scale impacts of these effects on population growth and predator-prey interactions (with community-level implications) via the application of traditional, ecological concepts and models. 2. 12. On Neuroimmunology and Brain Function: Experimental and Clinical Studies

    Författare :Nina Strenn; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; immune system; mental disorders; polymorphisms; depression; autism; bipolar disorder; SSRI; S100B; 5-HTR2A; Flinders sensitive line;

    Sammanfattning : The immune system has been implicated in the mechanisms underlying many psychiatric disorders. Immune mediators are expressed in the central nervous system (CNS) not only in response to harmful stimuli, but also in a constitutive manner, and serve as important plasticity factors during development. 3. 13. On antidepressant effects of running and SSRI : focus on hippocampus and striatal dopamine pathways

    Författare :Astrid Bjørnebekk; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Depression; exercise; neuropeptides; cell proliferation; neurogenesis; NPY; BDNF; Flinders Sensitive Line;

    Sammanfattning : Considering the heterogeneous character of depression, it seems likely that many brain regions are involved mediating the diverse symptoms of depression. For example, the mesolimbic DA system has a central function for motivational behaviors and pleasure seeking, and it is possible that malfunctioning of brain reward systems could be an underlying mechanism of the anhedonia experienced in depressive illness. 4. 14. Drug repositioning in chemoprevention of colorectal cancer

    Författare :Naiqi Zhang; Allmänmedicin och klinisk epidemiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Drug repositioning; Colorectal cancer CRC ; Pharmacoepidemiology; Chemoprevention; Melatonin; Proguanil; Atovaquone; Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor SSRI ;

    Sammanfattning : BackgroundColorectal cancer (CRC) ranks as the third most frequently occurring cancer and the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide. In response to the high demand for an effective prevention strategy, chemoprevention, using medications to block the pathogenetic pathways of disease, might be an attractive strategy to offer a more effective option at a low cost. 5. 15. From achiral to chiral analysis of citalopram

    Författare :Björn Carlsson; Yngve Bergqvist; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :depression; noradrenaline; dopamine; serotonin; citalopram; selective serotonin-reuptake inhibitor SSRI ; high-performance liquid chromatography HPLC ; therapeutic drug monitoring TDM ; enantioselective separation; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : Within the field of depression the “monoamine hypothesis” has been the leading theory to explain the biological basis of depression. This theory proposes that the biological basis of depression is due to a deficiency in one or more of three key neurotransmitter systems, namely noradrenaline, dopamine and serotonin which are thought to mediate the therapeutic actions of virtually every known antidepressant agent.
