6. Managing water according to river basins : Information management, institutional arrangements and strategic policy support - with focus on the EU Water Framework Directive
Sammanfattning : Today, there is a general notion that water resources are best managed according to their river basins. River basin management may be approached from a wide variety of angles. This thesis focuses on information management, institutional arrangements and strategic policy support, with special reference to the EU Water Framework Directive (WFD). LÄS MER
7. Hydrodynamic and Microbiological Modelling of Water Quality in Drinking Water Sources
Sammanfattning : Faecal contamination of drinking water sources poses risks for waterborne disease outbreaks. To manage these risks the fate and transport of faecal contamination in a drinking water source need to be understood and quantitatively described. LÄS MER
8. The influence of multiscale hyporheic flow on solute transport : Implications for stream restoration enhancing nitrogen removal
Sammanfattning : Stream water that flows into and out of streambeds is called hyporheic exchange flow (HEF).It continuously interacts with groundwater and thereby affect the water quality of local streamreaches as well as downstream recipients by providing an environment where solutes andenergy can be retained and degraded. 9. Water Supply in Tanzania and Performance of Local Plant Materials in Purification of Turbid Water
Sammanfattning : Water supply services in urban and rural areas of Tanzania were reviewed and specific studies were carried out on water supply and on purification of turbid water sources using locally available plant materials in rural villages of Singida Rural District. The review showed that large proportions of urban and rural populations in Tanzania face acute water supply problems mainly due to poor planning, implementation and management of water supply projects, including an inability to address social, technical, operation and maintenance and financial issues. 10. Uncertainty Modelling in Hydrological Applications - Error Propagation Properties of Random Linear Systems
Sammanfattning : In hydrological models for water resources management and planning, the model output or design quantities are functions of the input data and a number of parameters that are essentially stochastic processes or random variables. The task of uncertainty analysis is to estimate the uncertainty characteristics of the model output in terms of the uncertainties in the input, model parameters and initial conditions. LÄS MER
