  1. 6. Managing water according to river basins : Information management, institutional arrangements and strategic policy support - with focus on the EU Water Framework Directive

    Författare :Susanna Nilsson; Per-Erik Jansson; Erik Mostert; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; River basin management; EU Water Framework Directive WFD ; River Basin Dis-tricts RBDs ; International cooperation; Indicators; Baltic Sea Region BSR ; Water in nature and society; Vatten i natur och samhälle;

    Sammanfattning : Today, there is a general notion that water resources are best managed according to their river basins. River basin management may be approached from a wide variety of angles. This thesis focuses on information management, institutional arrangements and strategic policy support, with special reference to the EU Water Framework Directive (WFD). LÄS MER

  2. 7. Hydrodynamic and Microbiological Modelling of Water Quality in Drinking Water Sources

    Författare :Ekaterina Sokolova; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; ECO Lab; Bacteroidales; inactivation; microcosm experiment; fate and transport modelling; pathogens; microbial source tracking; MIKE 3; faecal indicators;

    Sammanfattning : Faecal contamination of drinking water sources poses risks for waterborne disease outbreaks. To manage these risks the fate and transport of faecal contamination in a drinking water source need to be understood and quantitatively described. LÄS MER

  3. 8. The influence of multiscale hyporheic flow on solute transport : Implications for stream restoration enhancing nitrogen removal

    Författare :Ida Morén; Anders Wörman; Joakim Riml; Roy Haggerty; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Hyporheic exchange flow; Hydrological modeling; Solute transport; Stream restoration; Nitrogen; Power spectral analysis; Hydraulic and Hydrologic Engineering; Hydraulik och teknisk hydrologi;

    Sammanfattning : Stream water that flows into and out of streambeds is called hyporheic exchange flow (HEF).It continuously interacts with groundwater and thereby affect the water quality of local streamreaches as well as downstream recipients by providing an environment where solutes andenergy can be retained and degraded. 4. 9. Water Supply in Tanzania and Performance of Local Plant Materials in Purification of Turbid Water

    Författare :Nancy Marobhe; Gunno Renman; Gunnar Jacks; Msafiri Jackson; Tapio Katko; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Antibacterial effect; Coagulant proteins; Vigna unguiculata; Parkinsonia aculeata; Ion exchange; Tanzania water supply; Water engineering; Vattenteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Water supply services in urban and rural areas of Tanzania were reviewed and specific studies were carried out on water supply and on purification of turbid water sources using locally available plant materials in rural villages of Singida Rural District. The review showed that large proportions of urban and rural populations in Tanzania face acute water supply problems mainly due to poor planning, implementation and management of water supply projects, including an inability to address social, technical, operation and maintenance and financial issues. 5. 10. Uncertainty Modelling in Hydrological Applications - Error Propagation Properties of Random Linear Systems

    Författare :Jan Agerholm Høybye; Avdelningen för Teknisk vattenresurslära; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; geographical and geological engineering; Hydrogeology; floods; water quality; prediction uncertainty; differential equations; Stochastic hydrology; random functions; Hydrogeologi; teknisk geologi; teknisk geografi; Geophysics; physical oceanography; meteorology; Geofysik; fysisk oceanografi; meteorologi;

    Sammanfattning : In hydrological models for water resources management and planning, the model output or design quantities are functions of the input data and a number of parameters that are essentially stochastic processes or random variables. The task of uncertainty analysis is to estimate the uncertainty characteristics of the model output in terms of the uncertainties in the input, model parameters and initial conditions. LÄS MER
