  1. 1. Monitoring transport and fate of de-icing salt in the roadside environment : Modelling and field measurements

    Författare :Annika Lundmark; Per-Erik Jansson; Bo Olofsson; Ann-Catrine Norrström; Helen K. French; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Chloride; De-icing salt; Groundwater; Modelling; Monitoring; Road; Roadside; Soil water; Water in nature and society; Vatten i natur och samhälle;

    Sammanfattning : Roads and traffic are a major non-point source of pollutants and may have severe impacts on surface water, groundwater, soil and vegetation. In cold climates, de-icing salt is one such pollutant that may cause increased chloride concentrations and induce other effects on the environment. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Indoor emissions and fate of flame retardants : A modelling approach

    Författare :Ioannis Liagkouridis; Ian Cousins; Anna Palm Cousins; Thomas McKone; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; flame retardants; BFRs; OPFRs; indoor environment; emissions; fate; modelling; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : A significant number of consumer goods and building materials act as emission sources of flame retardants (FRs) in the indoor environment. As a result, FRs have become ubiquitous indoors raising concerns about human exposure and possible health implications. LÄS MER

  3. 3. REACTIVE TRANSPORT MODELLING OF DISSOLVED CO2 IN POROUS MEDIA : Injection into and leakage from geological reservoirs

    Författare :Nawaz Ahmad; Anders Wörman; Auli Niemi; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; CO2 geological storage and safety; leakage of brine saturated with dissolved CO2; reactive transport; fracture; advection; dispersion and diffusion; sorption; carbonate minerals kinetic reactions; calcite; dolomite; siderite; porosity; permeability; heat transport; Mark- och vattenteknik; Land and Water Resources Engineering;

    Sammanfattning : The geological sequestration of carbon dioxide (CO2) is one of the options of controlling the greenhouse gas emissions. However, leakage of CO2 from the storage reservoir is a risk associated with geological sequestration. Over longer times, large-scale groundwater motion may cause leakage of dissolved CO2 (CO2aq). 4. 4. In the Pipe or End of Pipe? : Transport and Dispersion of Water-borne Pollutants and Feasibility of Abatement Measures

    Författare :Christoffer Carstens; Vladimir Cvetkovic; Auli Niemi; KTH; []

    Sammanfattning : Eutrophication is one of the key environmental problems of today, both in terms of complexity and magnitude. For the Baltic Sea (BS), eutrophication is an acute problem, leading to hypoxic conditions at the bottom; a situation that is sustained and amplified, when phosphorus is released from hypoxic sediments. 5. 5. Environmental fate of chemicals released from consumer products : Multimedia modelling strategies

    Författare :Anna Palm Cousins; Michael McLachlan; Antonio Di Guardo; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Multimedia fate model; urban model; PBDEs; phthalate esters; indoor environment; emissions; exposure; BDE 209; DINP; DEHP; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : The objective of this thesis was to assess the environmental fate and transport of chemicals emitted from consumer products through the development and application of modelling tools. The following hypotheses were tested: i) Multimedia fate models can be applied in a multistage assessment process to emerging chemicals when limited knowledge exists to identify the likely environmental fate and to direct further research; ii) the indoor environment acts as a source of anthropogenic substances in consumer products to the outdoor environment; and iii) chemical removal pathways in the indoor environment are important for the fate of organic chemicals in densely populated areas.
