11. Regulating Vessel-Source Air Pollution - Standard-Setting in the Regulation of SOx Emissions
Sammanfattning : Emissions of sulphur oxides (SOx) cause considerable global environmental and human health impacts including acidification, climate change, and increased premature deaths in human populations due to serious heart and lung diseases. Although recently revised regulations in MARPOL 73/78 Annex VI are expected to decrease SOx emissions from ships, it is clear that these regulations will need further development. LÄS MER
12. On the Incorporation of Quality of Experience (QoE) in Mobile Networks : A technical, regulatory and business analysis
Sammanfattning : Mobile operators face a scenario characterised by new challenges such as growing data consumption, a slowdown in subscriber growth and reduced revenues due to the success of OTT providers. To remain competitive, mobile operators must offer affordable services and think on strategies to retain current customers. LÄS MER
13. Studies of Cellular Regulatory Mechanisms : from Genetic Switches to Cell Migration
Sammanfattning : Cellular behaviour depends ultimately on the transcription of genes. If we know how transcription is controlled we have a better chance of understanding cellular processes. This thesis presents six studies, all concerning cellular regulatory mechanisms. One study is purely experimental and five are computational studies. LÄS MER
14. Regulatory mechanisms of amino acid-induced signaling in Saccharomyces cerevisiae
Sammanfattning : This thesis describes studies aimed at elucidating the molecular mechanisms that regulate the SPS (Ssy1-Ptr3-Ssy5) signal transduction pathway in the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae. This pathway is induced by extracellular amino acids and facilitates their uptake. LÄS MER
15. Immunological strategies for counteracting type 1 diabetes focusing on IL-35 producing regulatory immune cells
Sammanfattning : Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is an autoimmune disease where pancreatic β-cells are attacked by immune cells. Regulatory T (Treg) cells play critical roles in suppressing immune responses and their involvement have been intensively studied in T1D. Low dose IL-2 has been proposed to selectively boost Treg cells in T1D, with only limited success. LÄS MER
