  1. 16. On the pathogenesis of infections associated with percutaneous osseointegrated orthopaedic implants

    Författare :Magdalena Zaborowska; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; osseointegration; amputation prosthesis; implant-associated infection; biofilm; staphylococci; extracellular vesicles; host defence; cytokines; cell death;

    Sammanfattning : Orthopaedic implants enable the restitution of locomotor function and improve the quality of life of many people. However, biomaterial-associated infection may occur due to the propensity of microorganisms to adhere and colonize implant surfaces. LÄS MER

  2. 17. Experimental studies on thrombin inhibition in acute- and chronic models of vessel wall injury

    Författare :Fredrik Scherstén; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :animal model; antithrombin; fibrinogen; histomorphology; melagatran; percutaneous coronary intervention; platelets; restenosis; stent; thrombin inhibition; thrombosis;

    Sammanfattning : Background: The number of percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI) performed worldwide has increased dramatically during the last decade. Complication rates have decreased over time, however the restenosis phenomenon remains an unsolved issue. Thrombin is the key regulator in the pro-coagulant state following PCI. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Atrial Fibrillation in the setting of Coronary Artery Disease : Risks and outcomes with different treatment options

    Författare :Gorav Batra; Jonas Oldgren; Gunnar Gislason; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; atrial fibrillation; coronary artery disease; acute coronary syndrome; myocardial infarction; percutaneous coronary intervention; coronary artery bypass grafting; antithrombotic therapy; angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors; angiotensin II receptor blockers; epidemiology; Medicinsk vetenskap; Medical Science;

    Sammanfattning : Coronary artery disease (CAD) is the leading cause of mortality worldwide and atrial fibrillation (AF) is a prevalent arrhythmia associated with increased risk of mortality and morbidity. Despite improved outcome in both diseases, there is a need to further describe the prevalence, outcome and management of CAD in patients with concomitant AF. LÄS MER

  4. 19. The Role of Chlamydia pneumoniae-induced Platelet Activation in Cardiovascular Disease : In vitro and In vivo studies

    Författare :Hanna Kälvegren; Torbjörn Bengtsson; Arina Richter; Erik Kihlström; Kenneth Persson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Chlamydia pneumoniae; Platelet; atherosclerosis; Infection; LDL-oxidation; Percutaneous coronary intervention; Cardiovascular disease; Serotonin; Reactive oxygen species production; Pharmacology; Farmakologi;

    Sammanfattning : The common risk factors for atherosclerosis, such as obesity, high cholesterol levels, sedentary lifestyle, diabetes and high alcohol intake, only explain approximately 50% of cardiovascular disease events. It is thereby important to identify new mechanisms that can stimulate the process of atherosclerosis. LÄS MER

  5. 20. Cardiac Arrest – mechanical chest compressions, gender differences and coronary angiography

    Författare :Erik Lindgren; Sten Rubertsson; Theresa M Olasveengen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cardiac arrest; OHCA; IHCA; CPR; coronary angiography; percutaneous coronary intervention; PCI; mechanical chest compressions; lucas; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care;

    Sammanfattning : Cardiac arrest is a major health problem with over 6000 cases of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) and 2500 cases of in-hospital cardiac arrest (IHCA) per year in Sweden. Survival are low. Many factors affect the chances of survival, including effective cardiopulmonary resuscitation and optimal post resuscitation care. LÄS MER
