6. Molecular studies on the autoantibody-mediated bone destruction in rheumatoid arthritis
Sammanfattning : Autoantibody-positive rheumatoid arthritis (RA), also called seropositive RA, is characterised by the presence of anti citrullinated proteins antibodies (ACPA) that can be detected in blood several years before disease onset. Joint inflammation, pain and bone destruction are major features of the disease. LÄS MER
7. On Observation of and Interaction in Open Distributed Systems
Sammanfattning : The thesis presents the results of research in computer science, as applied within a series of industrial projects. All of these projects have been part of an iterative and adaptive development process, from which we can draw conclusions in three different aspects. LÄS MER
8. Diagnosing hyper- and hypocortisolism using saliva samples : pitfalls and how to avoid them
Sammanfattning : Background: Cushing's syndrome (CS) is caused by high cortisol secretion whereas insufficient cortisol secretion is called adrenal insufficiency (AI). Both are rare diseases with substantial diagnostic delay, and high morbidity and mortality even though effective treatment is available. LÄS MER
9. QSBMR Quantitative Structure Biomagnification Relationships : Studies Regarding Persistent Environmental Pollutants in the Baltic Sea Biota
Sammanfattning : I have studied persistent environmental pollutants in herring (Clupea harengus), in adult guillemot (Uria aalge) and in guillemot eggs from the Baltic Sea. The studied contaminants were organochlorines (OCs); dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethanes (DDTs), polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), hexachlorobenzene (HCB), hexachlorocyclohexanes (HCHs), and brominated flame retardants (BFRs); polybrominated diphenylethers (PBDEs) and hexabromocyclododecane (HBCD). 10. Significance of Wilms’ tumor gene 1 as a biomarker in acute leukemia and solid tumors
Sammanfattning : Wilms’ tumor gene 1 (WT1) is a zinc finger transcriptional regulator with crucial functions in embryonic development. Originally WT1 was described as a tumor suppressor gene, but later studies have shown oncogenic properties of WT1 in a variety of tumors. Because of its dual functions in tumorigenesis, WT1 has been described as a chameleon gene. LÄS MER
