41. Developing a Porcine Model to Study the Glymphatic System
Sammanfattning : The glymphatic system is a brain-wide solute clearance system that has developed in the brain to clear metabolic waste during sleep. This clearance is mediated by advective fluxes of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) along perivascular spaces (PVS) and through the brain. LÄS MER
42. Temporal events in neuronal differentiation and cell death : expression and processing of the Alzheimer's amyloid precursor protein family and a protein at the nuclear pore
Sammanfattning : The present study had two major objectives: 1) to elucidate the involvement of Alzheimer’s amyloid precursor protein (APP) family in neuronal differentiation, and the effect of the Alzheimer’s disease (AD)-linked mutation APPV642I on signal transduction; 2) to investigate the fate of the nuclear pore complex protein POM121 during apoptosis and to examine the possibility of using green fluorescent protein (GFP)-labelled POM121 as a non-invasive sensor of apoptosis in living (non-fixed) cells.APP is the parent protein of the b-amyloid peptide, which is the major peptide constituent in the “senile plaques” of AD. 43. Peripheral and Central Mechanisms in Irritable Bowel Syndrome : in search of links
Sammanfattning : Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a chronic visceral pain disorder with female predominance, characterized by recurrent abdominal pain and disturbed bowel habits in the absence of an identifiable organic cause. This prevalent and debilitating disease, which accounts for a substantial economic and individual burden, lacks exact diagnostic tools and effective treatment, since its pathophysiology remains uncertain. 44. Untangling Cortico-Striatal Circuitry and its Role in Health and Disease - A computational investigation
Sammanfattning : The basal ganglia (BG) play a critical role in a variety of regular motor and cognitive functions. Many brain diseases, such as Parkinson’s diseases, Huntington’s disease and dyskinesia, are directly related to malfunctions of the BG nuclei. LÄS MER
45. Modelling driver steering and neuromuscular behaviour
Sammanfattning : This thesis challenges the traditional view of treating steering behaviour as a tracking task, instead treating it as a reaching task. Here, reaching refers to a fundamental human behaviour with the the intriguing characteristic of having a linear relationship between maximum speed and distance, effectively making the movement time constant.
