16. A holistic view on transcriptional regulatory networks in S. cerevisiae: Implications and utilization
Sammanfattning : Life; perhaps it is bold to start an abstract with this powerful word, but this is where I will start. My research is at the heart of life. LÄS MER
17. On the Evolution of the Avian Transcriptome
Sammanfattning : Change in gene expression is a powerful tool for evolution, because seemingly small expression changes can contribute important steps towards adaptation without necessarily affecting the whole organism. There is still much to learn about how gene expression evolves on genome- and population-wide levels, especially in non-model organisms. LÄS MER
18. Comparative Genomics in Diplomonads : Lifestyle Variations Revealed at Genetic Level
Sammanfattning : As sequencing technologies advance genome studies are becoming a basic tool for studying an organism, and with more genomes available comparative genomics is maturing into a powerful tool for biological research. This thesis demonstrates the strength of a comparative genomics approach on a group of understudied eukaryotes, the diplomonads. LÄS MER
19. Development of Computational Methods for Cancer Research: Strategies for closing the feedback loop in omics workflows
Sammanfattning : As the ultimate workhorses of the living things, proteins undergo significant regulatory activity throughout the lifetime of a cell or an organism. Many complex diseases effect the protein composition, expression or modification in the cells or tissues they arise in. LÄS MER
20. Identification and characterisation of chitin and cellulose synthases in oomycetes : New tools for biochemical studies and structure determination
Sammanfattning : Despite resembling ‘true’ fungi in terms of morphological features, oomycetes form a distinct eukaryotic lineage of filamentous microorganisms that belongs to the stramenopiles, a group of protists also comprising the closely-related brown algae and diatoms. Many oomycetes are devastating pathogens of plants and animals, globally causing significant economic losses in the agriculture and aquaculture industries, and posing considerable environmental damage to natural ecosystems.
