  1. 1. Studies of Eosinophil Cationic Protein (ECP) in vivo and in vitro : Impact of Genetic and Posttranslational Modifications

    Författare :Jenny Eriksson; Per Venge; Agneta Trulson; Ester Boix; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Biomedicine; Eosinophil granulocyte; granular protein; ECP; gene polymorphism; cytotoxicity; SELDI-TOF MS; glycosylation; molecular and functional heterogeneity; fibrosis; Biomedicin;

    Sammanfattning : Eosinophil granulocytes are tissue dwelling leukocytes that are implicated in host defence, particularly against helminthic parasites; they also participate in most inflammatory disorders. Although eosinophils have important roles in host defence mechanisms, their actions can also be harmful to the host as in the allergic inflammation where lung epithelium is destructed due to the release of toxic granule proteins. 2. 2. Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia in Adult Patients : Studies of Prognostic Factors, Treatment Results and in vitro Cellular Drug Resistance

    Författare :Helene Hallböök; Bengt Smedmyr; Elin Lindhagen; Lorentz Brinch; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medicine; acute lymphoblastic leukaemia; adult; adolescent; chemotherapy; stem cell transplantation; in vitro assay; imatinib; Medicin; Dermatology and venerology; clinical genetics; internal medicine; Dermatologi och venerologi; klinisk genetik; invärtesmedicin;

    Sammanfattning : Treatment results and clinical characteristics in adult acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL) were evaluated regarding three issues: a new treatment with cytarabine up-front, stem cell transplantation and a comparison between adult and paediatric treatment protocols. All studies were conducted on a national basis. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Clinical and Experimental Studies in Chronic Myeloid Leukemia : Studies of Treatment Outcome, In Vitro Cellular Drug Resistance and Gene Expression

    Författare :Ulla Olsson-Strömberg; Bengt Simonsson; Elin Lindhagen; Gisela Barbany; Johan Richter; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Medicine; chronic myeloid leukemia; adult; stem cell transplantation; mobilization of Ph-negative stem cells; in vitro assay; imatinib; gene expression; Medicin;

    Sammanfattning : The aims of the studies described in the thesis were to investigate different treatment strategies in chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) patients. Furthermore, activity of imatinib was investigated by in vitro cytotoxicity assay, and the gene expression pattern in interferon treated patients. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Identification and characterisation of chitin and cellulose synthases in oomycetes : New tools for biochemical studies and structure determination

    Författare :Stefan Klinter; Vincent Bulone; Lauren S. McKee; Mirjam Czjzek; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; biochemical characterisation; cellulose synthase; chitin synthase; in vitro activity assay; microtubule-interacting and trafficking domain; nanoparticle; oomycetes; phylogenetic analysis; yeast engineering; biokemisk karakterisering; cellulosasyntas; kitinsyntas; in vitro aktivitetsanalys; mikrotubulus-interagerande och -trafikerande domän; nanopartikel; oomyceter; fylogenetisk analys; jäst proteinteknik; Bioteknologi; Biotechnology;

    Sammanfattning : Despite resembling ‘true’ fungi in terms of morphological features, oomycetes form a distinct eukaryotic lineage of filamentous microorganisms that belongs to the stramenopiles, a group of protists also comprising the closely-related brown algae and diatoms. Many oomycetes are devastating pathogens of plants and animals, globally causing significant economic losses in the agriculture and aquaculture industries, and posing considerable environmental damage to natural ecosystems.     Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; chronic lymphocytic leukemia; in vitro drug sensitivity; apoptosis; prognostic markers; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik; Haematology; Hematologi; Molecular medicine genetics and pathology ; Molekylär medicin genetik och patologi ; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Medical genetics; Medicinsk genetik; Medical Science; Medicinsk vetenskap; Clinical Genetics; Klinisk genetik; Molekylär genetik; Molecular Genetics; Medical Genetics; Medicinsk genetik; Molekylär medicin; Molecular Medicine;

    Sammanfattning : Chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) is a heterogeneous malignancy displaying varying clinical outcome, where molecular markers today can divide patients into prognostic subgroups. Despite the introduction of new agents for treatment, remissions are usually not sustained in CLL and resistance towards treatment can partly be explained by aberrant apoptosis. LÄS MER
