1. Identification and characterisation of chitin and cellulose synthases in oomycetes : New tools for biochemical studies and structure determination
Sammanfattning : Despite resembling ‘true’ fungi in terms of morphological features, oomycetes form a distinct eukaryotic lineage of filamentous microorganisms that belongs to the stramenopiles, a group of protists also comprising the closely-related brown algae and diatoms. Many oomycetes are devastating pathogens of plants and animals, globally causing significant economic losses in the agriculture and aquaculture industries, and posing considerable environmental damage to natural ecosystems. 2. Characterisation of CtBP : A Co-Repressor of Transcription that Interacts with the Adenovirus E1A Protein
Sammanfattning : In this study, adenovirus E1A has been used to target and analyse the transcriptional function of the cellular C-terminal Binding Protein (CtBP).Transcription is a complex biochemical process that represents a major regulatory step in gene expression. LÄS MER
3. Biochemical characterisation of landfill leachate toxicity in fish
Sammanfattning : Deposition remains the most common form of waste disposal in many parts of the world. As a terminus of the products consumed in our society a landfill may contain virtually all sorts of man-made chemicals. Despite this, the harmfulness of landfill leachate has not been extensively evaluated in feral organisms in the environment. LÄS MER
4. Detection and Characterisation of Salmonella in Animal Feed Samples by PCR-Based Methods
Sammanfattning : Animal feed is a recognised source of Salmonella enterica for farm livestock and may also indirectly cause infection in people consuming foods of animal origin. It is therefore important to have rapid, reproducible and specific methods for the detection of Salmonella in feed, and for the characterisation of strains for further epidemiological investigations or to trace the source of contamination in a production facility. 5. Biochemical characterisation and clinical correlation of neuropeptides in neuroblastoma with emphasis on neuropeptide Y
Sammanfattning : Neuropeptides influence cellular events involved in tumour growth and differentiation. Neuroblastoma, a malignant childhood tumour of neural crest origin, synthesises and releases monoamines and neuropeptides. The concentrations of some of these neuropeptides in plasma are correlated to clinical stage and outcome. LÄS MER
