21. Cardiovascular morbidity and metabolic signature in patients with rheumatoid arthritis
Sammanfattning : Background and objectives: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic systemic inflammatory disease with excess risk for cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. The treatment of RA by anti-inflammatory drugs has dramatically been improved over the resent decades. LÄS MER
22. Metabolic factors and cancer risk : prospective studies on prostate cancer, colorectal cancer, and cancer overall
Sammanfattning : Background: A large number of prospective studies have shown that overweight and diabetes are related to an increased risk of many cancers, including colorectal cancer. In contrast, diabetes has been related to a decreased risk of prostate cancer, and overweight has been related to an increased risk of fatal, but not of incident, prostate cancer. LÄS MER
23. Adaptations and constraints associated with autotrophy in microbial metabolism
Sammanfattning : Carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from human activities are driving climate change, but the pending crisis could be mitigated by a circular carbon economy where released CO2 is recycled into commodity chemicals. Autotrophic microbes can make a contribution by producing chemicals, such as biofuels, from CO2 and renewable energy. LÄS MER
24. Metabolic aspects on diabetic nephropathy
Sammanfattning : Diabetic nephropathy (DN) is associated with morbidity and mortality due to cardiovascular disease and renal failure. This study focused on the impact of glycemic control on the development of DN and the metabolic consequences of DN. The euglycemic hyperinsulinemic clamp technique was used to assess insulin sensitivity and insulin clearance. LÄS MER
25. Intermittent Claudication : Prevalence and metabolic risk factors
Sammanfattning : The prevalence of intermittent claudication (IC) in middle-aged men (45-69 years old) and metabolic risk factors for this disease was studied in a Swedish community. All 15 253 middle-aged male residents in Linköping community, were screened for symptoms of IC using a postal questionnaire, which included detailed questions about smoking habits and presence of hypertension and diabetes mellitus.
