16. ’Moving On’ and Transitional Bridges : Studies on migration, violence and wellbeing in encounters with Somali-born women and the maternity health care in Sweden
Sammanfattning : During the latest decade Somali-born women with experiences of long-lasting war followed by migration have increasingly encountered Swedish maternity care, where antenatal care midwives are assigned to ask questions about exposure to violence. The overall aim in this thesis was to gain deeper understanding of Somali-born women’s wellbeing and needs during the parallel transitions of migration to Sweden and childbearing, focusing on maternity healthcare encounters and violence. 17. Caring (in) Diaspora: Aging and Caring Experiences of Older Turkish Migrants in a Swedish Context
Sammanfattning : This thesis investigates Turkish migrants’ aging experiences and their understandings about care by concentrating on the accounts of a group of first-generation Turkish immigrants who settled in Sweden in the late 1960s and early 1970s. The aim is to explore how older immigrants’ lives have been marked by the experience of migration and re-establishment in another country, how the impact of having once lost caring relations affected their decisions and desires about care in old age. 18. Migration, health and diabetes mellitus - Studies comparing foreign-and Swedish-born diabetic subjects living in Sweden
Sammanfattning : To study the influence of migration on health in migrant diabetic subjects, foreign-and Swedish-born persons were compared as regards objective and subjectively perceived health in relation to social position, and beliefs about health and illness and their influence on self-care and care-seeking behaviour. Persons (foreign- and Swedish-born) with known diabetes mellitus (DM), aged 16-74 years, were chosen from two different counties in Southern Sweden (n=143/1384; 113/1564), and from a random sample of the Swedish population, the annual Swedish Survey of Living Conditions (n=31/446). Sammanfattning : This dissertatian i concerned with the ways in which caregivers within elderly care reason and respond to questions concerning ethnicity. The research is based on a discursive analysis of a focus group study; interwiews with caregivers; and participant observation from fieldwork within one elderly care team. LÄS MER
20. The Maternal Migration Effect : Exploring Maternal Healthcare in Diaspora Using Qualitative Proxies for Medical Anthropology
Sammanfattning : This project explores the 'maternal migration effect'. Following migration to a high-income country with a low maternal mortality rate, we assume that some immigrant women’s reliance upon maternal practices that respond to a low-income, high-mortality context can adversely affect care-seeking and utilization of treatment facilities.
