  1. 6. Glycosaminoglycan Biosynthesis in Zebrafish

    Författare :Beata Filipek-Górniok; Lena Kjellén; Johan Ledin; Kay Grobe; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Heparan sulfate; chondroitin dermatan sulfate; biosynthesis; development; N-deacetylase N-sulfotransferase; glycosyltransferases; morpholino; CRISPR-Cas9;

    Sammanfattning : Proteoglycans (PGs) are composed of highly sulfated glycosaminoglycans chains (GAGs) attached to specific core proteins. They are present in extracellular matrices, on the cell surface and in storage granules of hematopoietic cells. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Heparan Sulfate and Development : A Study of NDST Deficient Mice and Embryonic Stem Cells

    Författare :Katarina Holmborn; Lena Kjellén; Erik Forsberg; Catherine L. Merry; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cell and molecular biology; heparan sulfate; proteoglycan; biosynthesis; N-deacetylase N-sulfotransferase; NDST; gene targeting; embryonic development; lung development; mast cells; Cell- och molekylärbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Heparan sulfate (HS) proteoglycans consist of sulfated HS chains covalently bound to core proteins. They are ubiquitously expressed, on the cell surface and in the extracellular matrix, throughout the body. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Heparan Sulfate Biosynthesis – Clues from Knockout Mice

    Författare :Johan Ledin; Lena Kjellén; John Gallagher; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cell and molecular biology; heparan sulfate; biosynthesis; gene targeting; embryonic development; proteoglycans; NDST; N-deacetylase N-sulfotransferase; Cell- och molekylärbiologi; Cell and molecular biology; Cell- och molekylärbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : In the extracellular space, many specialized proteins are located to support cells and to mediate cell-cell signalling. One class of such molecules is heparan sulfate (HS) proteoglycans, which are proteins with different properties and locations but all of them decorated with long unbranched HS polysaccharide chains. 4. 9. Brittlestars Galactosaminoglycans and Tools to Study their Structure

    Författare :Ramesh Babu Namburi; Dorothe Spillmann; Lena Kjellén; Ulf Lindahl; Clare Hughes; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Chondroitin sulfate; Brittlestars; Gut bacteria; H. bizzozeronii; B.thetaiotaomicron; Biokemi; Biochemistry; Mikrobiologi; Microbiology; Molecular Biology; Molekylärbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : In all living organisms, biological activities such as proper functioning and co-ordination of different organs will depend on different cells and molecular interactions. In some organisms the loss of functional organs or damage of organs can be lethal, whereas in others a special process called regeneration can retrieve lost organs. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Novel Culture Strategies and Signal Transduction Pathways of Pluripotent Stem Cells

    Författare :Sara Pijuan Galitó; Cecilia Annerén; Lena Kjellén; Christopher Ward; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Pluripotent stem cells; Inter-alpha inhibitor; culture method; Biologi med inriktning mot molekylär cellbiologi; Biology with specialization in Molecular Cell Biology; Biology with specialization in Molecular Biotechnology; Biologi med inriktning mot molekylär bioteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Pluripotent stem cells (PSCs) can self-renew indefinitely in culture while maintaining their capacity to differentiate into any cell type of an organism, thus offering novel sources for drug screening, in vitro disease modelling, and cell replacement therapies. However, due to their sensitive nature, many PSC lines are still cultured using undefined components such as serum or serum-derived components, on either feeder cells or complex protein mixes such as Matrigel or gelatine.
