  1. 16. Novel monogalactoside galectin inhibitor scaffolds : Guiding selectivity with heteroaromatic interactions

    Författare :Alexander Dahlqvist; Centrum för analys och syntes; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Galectin; Galectin inhibitor; Heterocycles; C-glycoside; Medicinal chemistry; Organic chemistry; Hydroboration; Diastereoselective; Galactose;

    Sammanfattning : Carbohydrates are involved in many cellular processes, and most biomolecules are glycosylated. Thesemodifications are used in biological systems as information carriers, helping regulate organization on the cell surfaceand interactions between cells and the environment. LÄS MER

  2. 17. Antiadhesive agents targeting uropathogenic Escherichia coli : Multivariate studies of protein-protein and protein-carbohydrate interactions

    Författare :Andreas Larsson; Jan Kihlberg; Fredrik Almqvist; Mats Larhed; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Organic chemistry; Antibacterial; pili; antiadhesive agents; structure based design; statistical molecular design; 2-pyridone; amino acid derivative; galabiose; enaminone; SPR; ELISA; QSAR; Organisk kemi; Organic chemistry; Organisk kemi; organisk kemi; Organic Chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis describes studies directed towards development of novel antiadhesive agents, with particular emphasis on compounds that prevent attachment of bacteria to a host-cell. Three different proteins involved in the assembly or function of adhesive pili in uropathogenic Escherichia coli have been targeted either by rational structure based design or statistical molecular methods. 3. 18. Early host cell interactions and antivirals against ocular adenoviruses

    Författare :Rickard Storm; Niklas Arnberg; Saw See Hong; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Adenovirus; Virus host interactions; Antivirals; Sialic acid; Integrins; Epidemic keratoconjuntivitis;

    Sammanfattning : Viruses are common causative agents of ocular infection among humans. Epidemic keratoconjuntivitis (EKC) is a severe and contagious ocular disease with reported outbreaks worldwide. It is estimated that this disease affects 20-40 million individuals every year, which leads to huge socioeconomic costs for the affected countries. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Mapping higher-order dynamics and interactions in complex networks

    Författare :Anton Holmgren; Martin Rosvall; Ludvig Lizana; Ingo Scholtes; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; networks; community detection; information theory; the map equation;

    Sammanfattning : Complex systems research seeks to explain emergent properties in social, technological, and biological systems that result from interactions between their components. As data on the intricate relationships within these systems become increasingly available, there is a growing need for more sophisticated models to describe them accurately and offer deeper insights.
