  1. 11. Cytokines and their soluble receptors in nasal fluids from school children with allergic rhinitis

    Författare :Mikael Benson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Allergic rhinitis; school children; cytokines; soluble cytokine receptors; nasal fluids;

    Sammanfattning : Allergic inflammation is associated with a shift in the balance between cytokines produced by two T helper subsets (Th1 and Th2) towards a preponderance of Th2 cells. Interleukin (IL)-4 is produced by Th2 cells and interferon-g (IFN-g) by Th1 cells. The ratio IL-4/IFN-g is often used as a marker of the balance between the cytokines. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Transforming Growth Factor-b, Regulatory functions on normal lymphocytes and tumor outgrowth Regulatory functions on normal lymphocytes and tumor outgrowth

    Författare :Åsa Schiött; Institutionen för immunteknologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; TGF-b; monocyte; rat; costimulation; Th2; ERK; tumor; TIL; Immunology; serology; Immunologi; transplantation; T-lymphocyte; serologi;

    Sammanfattning : Transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-b) is a well-characterised growth regulatory factor, which acts on most cell types. This thesis has focused on the regulatory roles of TGF-b on normal lymphocytes. One interesting finding is that TGF-b acts both costimulatory and inhibitory on T-lymphocytes. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Reactive oxygen and nitrogen in host defence against Francisella tularensis

    Författare :Helena Lindgren; Anders Sjöstedt; Tommy Sundquist; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cell and molecular biology; Francisella tularensis; inducible nitric oxide synthase; phagocyte oxidase; macrophages; Cell- och molekylärbiologi; Cell and molecular biology; Cell- och molekylärbiologi; klinisk bakteriologi; Clinical Bacteriology;

    Sammanfattning : Francisella tularensis, the causative agent of tularemia, is a potent human and animal pathogen. Initially upon infection of the host, intramacrophage proliferation of F. tularensis occurs but after activation of the acquired host immunity, the phagocytes become activated to kill the bacterium. In my thesis, I focused on mechanisms utilized by F. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Microbial and maternal influences on allergic sensitization during childhood: defining a role for monocytes

    Författare :Shanie Saghafian Hedengren; Eva Sverremark-Ekström; Susan Prescott; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Monocytes; allergic sensitization; maternal allergy; Toll-like receptor; p38-MAPK; IL-6; Epstein-Barr virus; early-life microbial exposure; NK cells; IFN-γ; Immunology; Immunologi; immunologi; Immunology;

    Sammanfattning : Allergic diseases are influenced by genetics and the environment. Maternal allergy appears to confer a higher risk for allergic sensitization than paternal allergy, suggesting an in utero influence. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Gold allergy : In vitro studies using peripheralblood mononuclear cells

    Författare :Jenny Clifford; Per Hultman; Karin Cederbrant; Chris Anderson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Dermatology and venerology; Dermatologi och venerologi;

    Sammanfattning : Positive patch test reactions to gold are commonly seen in dermatology clinics, but it is veryunusual for the patients to actually have any clinical symptoms. It is also common with irritantreactions that are not linked to adaptive immunity. LÄS MER
