  1. 1. Altered proteins in the aging brain

    Författare :Adila Elobeid; Irina Alafuzoff; Lena Claesson-Welsh; Thomas Brännström; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Cognitively unimpaired subjects; Hyperphosphorylated tau; Beta amyloid; Alpha-synclein; Transactive response DNA binding protein 43; Patologi; Pathology;

    Sammanfattning : The classification of neurodegenerative disorders is based on the major component of the protein aggregates in the brain. The most common altered proteins associated with neurodegeneration are Hyperphosphorylated tau (HPt), beta amyloid (Aβ), alpha-synclein (αS) and transactive response DNA binding protein 43 (TDP43). Författare :Maj-Linda Selenica; Avdelningen för klinisk kemi och farmakologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neurologi; neuropsykologi; neurofysiologi; neuropsychology; neurophysiology; Neurology; Medicine human and vertebrates ; Medicin människa och djur ; Clinical chemistry; Klinisk kemi; Kinase inhibitors; Tau protein; Cystatin C; Glycogen Synthase Kinase; Alzheimers Disease; Amyloid beta;

    Sammanfattning : Alzheimer´s Disease (AD) is a progressive neurodegenerative dementia characterized by the extracellular accumulation of the beta-amyloid (Ab) peptide into plaques and intracellular phosphorylation and accumulation of tau protein into neurofibrillary tangles (NFT). Inflammation due to astrocytic and microglial activation is one of the ongoing processes in the disease giving rise to cytokine production and oxidative stress. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Neurodegenerative Biomarkers in Healthy Elderly - with special reference to the preclinical pattern of biological and cognitive markers for Alzheimer’s disease

    Författare :Erik Stomrud; Klinisk minnesforskning; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cerebral blood flow; EEG; phosphorylated tau protein; amyloid beta protein; tau protein; cerebrospinal fluid; biomarkers; preclinical Alzheimer s disease; Alzheimer s disease; MCI; dementia; SPECT; memory; cognition; early diagnosis; control groups;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative disorder characterized by tau and amyloid brain pathology. With the gradual degeneration of neurons, cognitive symptoms will arise and the affected individual will eventually develop AD dementia. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Tau and neurofilament proteins in Alzheimer’s disease and related cell models

    Författare :Cecilia Björkdahl; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :AD; tau; neurofilament proteins; kinases; zinc; Hsp27; alphaB-crystallin;

    Sammanfattning : Background and aims: Among those afflicted with dementia more than half suffer from Alzheimer’s disease (AD). Pathological hallmarks of the disease include aggregates of Abeta, so called amyloid plaques, and neurofibrillary tangles (NFTs) made up of hyperphosphorylated cytoskeletal proteins. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Protein phosphatases and kinases implicated in Alzheimer's disease abnormal tau phosporylation

    Författare :Jin-jing Pei; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis describes the distribution, levels and activities of a number of protein kinases and protein phosphatases (PPs) implicated in the abnormal phosphorylation of the tau protein that forms the paired helical filaments (PHFs) of Alzheimer's disease (AD) neurofibrillary tangles (NFTs). Paper I describes the immunocytochemical localization of PP-1, PP-2A, PP-2B and PTP-1B, as well as the protein kinase MAP kinase and p34cdc2 in the hippocampal formation of AD and control brains.
