  1. 6. Immune regulation of herpes simplex virus type 2 infection: Special emphasis on the transcription factor T-bet

    Författare :Alexandra Svensson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :HSV-2; T-bet; Substance P; Neurokinin 1; IFN-alfa beta signaling; Polymorphisms;

    Sammanfattning : Herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2) is a sexually transmitted pathogen that infects the genital tract mucosa as well as local sensory neurons. It is the most common cause of genital ulcer disease in humans. The infection gives rise to a wide range of symptoms, ranging from severe and painful recurrent episodes of genital herpes to silent infection. LÄS MER

  2. 7. The discovery of antiviral compounds targeting adenovirus and herpes simplex virus : assessment of synthetic compounds and natural products

    Författare :Mårten Strand; Göran Wadell; Mikael Elofsson; Ya-Fang Mei; Lieve Naesens; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; virology; antiviral; adenovirus; herpes simplex virus; small molecule; inhibitor; hsv; drug discovery; medicinsk virologi; Medical Virology; datorlingvistik; computational linguistics; mikrobiologi; Microbiology;

    Sammanfattning : There is a need for new antiviral drugs. Especially for the treatment of adenovirus infections, since no approved anti-adenoviral drugs are available. Adenovirus infections in healthy persons are most often associated with respiratory disease, diarrhea and infections of the eye. These infections can be severe, but are most often self-limiting. 3. 8. Anti-herpes simplex virus activities of sulfomannan oligosaccharide PI-88 and disulfated cyclitols

    Författare :Maria Ekblad; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :herpes simplex virus; antiviral drugs; viral glycoproteins; heparan sulfate mimetic; PI-88;

    Sammanfattning : Herpes simplex virus (HSV) initiates invasion of human cells by binding to the cell surface heparan sulfate (HS) glycosaminoglycan chains. This step is mediated by the viral envelope glycoproteins gC and/or gB. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Interaction of herpes simplex virus with cell surface glycosaminoglycans as a target for antiviral intervention

    Författare :Kicki Bergefall; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :HSV; glycoproteins; glycosaminoglycans; virus receptor; antiviral drugs;

    Sammanfattning : Herpes simplex virus (HSV) infections in humans are predominantly manifested as oral cold sores or genital ulcers. As HSV infects cells by interaction with cell surface heparan sulfate (HS) and/or chondroitin sulfate (CS), the aim of the research work presented in this thesis was to explore the possibility of antiviral intervention with compounds that mimic HS or CS. 5. 10. Sexually transmitted infections: serological, microbiological and microscopical aspects

    Författare :Matilda Berntsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; herpes simplex virus; seroprevalence; Epstein-Barr virus; cytomegalovirus; urethritis; cervicitis; STI;

    Sammanfattning : The prevalence of sexually transmitted infections (STI) is high in the adult populations world-wide but varies between populations and time periods. Since a high proportion of infected individuals are asymptomatic, diagnostic approaches to reduce further transmission and complications are essential. LÄS MER
